Oh yeah sorry, I forgot the details of the game. I think it's coming out in (possibly more than) two sets with 4 acts/episodes apiece, which sounds like I'd have to buy it twice? Maybe I'm wrong.

It feels silly being a Nintendo fan and complaining about graphics, but... a little voice in my head wants to complain about graphics Neutral It's a PC game, and PC games should be relatively high fidelity nowadays, yes?

Heheh I was about to write "uh yeah what do you think I was posting about iT??" but then I remembered I hadn't mentioned context and had only posted in the MSPAF game news thread Surprised

srsly though I CANNOT stop focusing on the lack of collision detection in the kitchen, it's really bumming me out. BUT THE MUSIC Very Happy Also it seems What Pumpkin studios have their own musical motif now? Which is cool. "bwoo BWOO BWOOWOOwoowoo"

--------------------
unrelated to anything but for anybody who's seen any respectable amount of Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother, it's gradually occurred to me why watching HIMYM leaves a bad aftertaste in my head, personally? Not that I don't laugh at it, I do, but...
holy shit as a view on social dynamics the two are so very different.
The Friend Group in HIMYM is super atomic and closed off, and new additions are put through a LOT of hazing until they are "worthy" of "friendship" status - really how many characters are they even consistently friends with outside their initial group, despite all the dating and socialising they do? How many recurring "friend" characters are there in the entire series? Also, they're TOTES judgmental. Both at each other and outsiders. SO many times stereotypes have been called in as insults, as though somebody who is viewed as acting like a stereotype is also asking to be made fun of. Stereotypes exist for a reason, and some people will align themselves to one or another, but that is not in itself a LOLworthy issue. Dammit, if someone has a butterfly tattoo above their ass and you don't know anything about them besides what they look like from the back it is unfair to assume they are factually sexually available and also probably have daddy issues! And less so to have a large group conversation about all the different ways this random stranger is probably slutty! And it's not just that. There was an episode where Ted got the opportunity to attend a fancy upper class NY dinner party where the guests would discuss literature and opera and architecture, his favorite interests, and his friends persistently killed the mood and his enthusiasm and flat out made fun of everybody there and their interests (as well as being generally rude and inappropriately behaved guests). And by then by the end of the episode, Ted realised what a "pretentious douche" he was being, he apologised, and they went to a robot wars thing instead. HOW THE FUCK IS THAT APPROPRIATE TO DO TO YOUR FRIENDS. IF MY FRIEND HAS AN INTEREST IN SOMETHING REASONABLE IT IS NOT MY DUTY TO MAKE FUN OF HIM FOR IT AND EVERYONE ELSE WITH THAT INTEREST ALSO, TO THE POINT OF BEING ASHAMED OF THAT INTEREST. Jesus. And this is practically a series *theme*.

Conversely: The Big Bang Theory group have grown significantly in both numbers and as individuals since the series start and the group broadly remains friendly with everybody, even technical outsiders like Stuart or Bawwy Kwipkey or Raj's girlfriend. Their interests are SUPER broad and varied and while they do occasionally jest about them, generally they're pretty accepting of other's interests and faults and are usually open to sharing and participation. While they occasionally gossip, secrets among the group don't last long and never cause strife for anything longer than a single episode. And they work on their flaws without dragging their friends down also! They're not self-destructive like all the characters in HIMYM have been at one point or another (and at least one point during the series all of the characters have a serious non-functioning breakdown or do something really bloody stupid that lasts for several episodes - see Robyn and Barney getting together, or Robyn being dumped by some guy, or Ted rebounding, or Marshall after Lily leaves or just Lily leaving (she was also a total bitch to her other friends when she left, by the way, and made Ted apologise for being upset about that.)

Graah. Sorry for the essay. It's just my friends and social group right now are very much the Big Bang Theory style of group, and I love all of them for being there and they're all great people. It scares me how easily it would have been for me to make a different life decision and to not have met any of them. Conversely, my experience in secondary school was very much the HIMYM style of "friendship" and gradually realising I'm watching a toxic social structure has been an uncomfortable process.

About the Homestuck:

Yeah, as I said myself, the look is... suboptimal. But then again, none of us started reading Homestuck for the fancy pictures, I'd assume, so I am willing to look beyond that. As for the buying multiples, since the backers who backed enough get them, wouldn't it be odd to charge everyone else multiple times? Unless each part is like, really cheap. Perhaps it's one of the rare cases where the trailer looks worse then the game does, instead of the other way around.

About HIMYM and BBT:

I think both series have their issues and both have their moments. I can definitely see your point about the friendships, though I have to admit that I don't know either series well enough to judge them. All I know that both have had moments I loved and both had moments I enjoyed but both also had moments I would have prefered if they didn't have them.

yo Dee, the actual game itself is only four episodes. The thing is, if it does well (which they think it will), there'll be a sequel!

The four episodes' prices are also likely divided up to make a "normal" game price in the end.

also telltale gets away with not-the-best-graphics so :0

Graphics aren't that important, though it is certainly noticable nowadays if a game has below average graphics.

For any of y'all who watch Parks & Recreation, does this mean we need to be worried about Caliborn creating an overly-complicated board game now? And I think the Hiveswap graphics work with Homestuck's general aesthetic. Honestly, I'd have been kind of disappointed if they were super-realistic HD stuff.

im sorry but since i play the cods and the hallos and the near moan games if i cant see the seven brazillionth bead of sweat on my ambiguous alignment white guy with stubble then im not going to play it because who needs stuff like story or plot or character development or humor or anything that makes a game good when you have graphics?

incedentally i could not find the sarcasm tag on the advanced editor i think that may be a bug

And where is this info coming from? Not that I think you're lying, but I would like to know how credible the source is, since I don't see anything about it on the official website.

Technically that's not the source. The source is the redditor who posted it in the first place. And while he's known to have an interest in hacking the 3DS, equally, we don't have proof - the Roy soundfiles are just generic Fire Emblem soundfiles with Roy in their filename, and apparently the Ryu ones aren't remixes; they're taken directly from an older game, which... I can't really see happening?

Not saying I'd be shocked if it happened, but, like. Grain of salt and all that.

Also, and unrelated to anything, I found this on a bench outside my University's student's union:

I don't really mind either way, because if it's voted back it'll be because it's handleable, but...

nothing's changed Neutral MLopunny isn't a counter. MSableye isn't a counter, unless it's got several boosts and a Will-O-Wisp. MMetagross definitely isn't a counter.
If I was gamefreak I'd just nerf King's Shield (-1 stage instead of -2 stages) and reduce all those 150 bsts to 140 then call it a day!
