Pokemon game discussion

Hmmm, might I suggest some kind of separate thread for this? Because I would absolutely love to make a whole region with you guys (filled with only old Pokemon of course) and with its own story. Then we could have the protagonist being the main RPer, but the Gym Leaders could also have side stories that one could follow. Also an optional travelling companion to RP with. I just think it would be really cool, plus the fact that Gym Leaders don't have to feature too much means that if I lose interest after my bit's done, it doesn't matter and won't affect the story.

Also, minor comment, I don't need a Froakie anymore D_What! I have a Naive one with pretty decent IVs in everything I think. Currently a level 40-something Greninja.

Sure thing, would we put it under Role Playing or somewhere else?

Also, when you say only old Pokemon, do you mean no Fakemons or do you mean gen 1-5?

Pfft so many of us use gen 6ers, it'd be silly to exclude them.

Anyway! You know Nuzlockes, of course? Well, for the sake of this explanation I'm using Nuzlockes because they tend to make the best play through stories. Basically, instead of RPing (or at least /just/ RPing), whoever wants to be the Player Character takes it upon themselves to record their journey. I'm a big believer in random storytelling; someone clouding their own mission rarely works. So I suggest for the sake of a base to work from, they use an X Y nuzlocke. Kalos is well suited to this because of the a) massive amount of pokemon available and b) immediate ability to trade pokemon. So if they want they can choose their starter Pokémon in advance and trade it in, and do that for all/most of their pokemon, or let the gods of fate decide, true to the Nuzlocke spirit. And then record this in the log as being a totally different adventure with similarly timed checkpoints but a different story/characters/region and possibly different pokemon, too. So, if the PC survives the first few routes and battles (if not, typical nuzlocke means DEATH), they reach then gym. In this case, Alexa, but she and her bugs and city are written out of the story and losing to her doesn't trigger death. Instead, Alexa => New ice-type gym leader!  And since not everyone has all the mons they'd like (or the game/WiFi they'd like) we can do these battles on a simulator in real time... When it suits. And if the PC decided to do a Nuzlocke, then a loss on the simulator is a loss in-game and that becomes part of the plot. As do any inter-leader battles or whatever. Also, all simulators provide a chat function for material to base logs on.

Thing is, I haven't used a sim since the early days of Pokemon Online, so I dunno how robust the 6th gen one smogon relies on is or even if it allows free battles (e.g Swampert isn't released yet and Dragalge does not have access to Adaptability currently. We'd need a sim to allow for that, AND level discrepancies). If anyone else wants to pipe in here with suggestions, by all means go ahead.

The nuzlocke thing is obviously optional, and I didn't describe the RPs much because that's out of my knowledge base.

That sounds good to me, but since I'm a gym leader, I wouldn't be doing much work. I guess we'll have to wait and see if we have any volunteers to be the PC. On an unrelated note, I'm trying to chain-fish for a shiny. No luck so far. Anyone got any tips other than Suction Cups/Sticky Hold?

No luck because you have terrible concentration/reflexes, or because you're doing everything right and it hasn't happened yet? Can't help with either I'm afraid. It's all luck and timing.

It's the second one. I can get a good chain going, but I still haven't found any shinies.

I never used a simulator before, where can I find one and how do I use it?

i was going to try a no-healing run of the E4, and it was going well until THE PROBOPASS WRECKED ME. I FEEL INADEQUATE AGAIN.
i had no idea probopass was part steel! i thought it was pure rock.
the dragalge finished me off, and on my second try i ended up having to use a revive :\

at this point i smelled popcorn in the student lounge, so i went in and saw a dude playing x/y, so i challenged him to a battle.
HIS SLYVEON HAD 243 SP. DEF. AT LEVEL 76.
but i did end up winning though, due almost solely to lucario waking up after only one turn of sleep.
also oh-ko ing his tyranitar with chesnaught's hammer arm.

ALSO THIS WHAT EVEN IS IT WITH THIS TOGEKISS?!? IT'S LEVEL 90 NOW, STILL JUST FROM EXP SHARE AND APPARENTLY IT HAS REALLY REALLY GOOD IV'S?!??? IT'S PRETTY MUCH PERFECT IN EVERY WAY EXCEPT THE MOST IMPORTANT. stupid dumb dumb hustle.
fakedit: yeah there's pretty much no way this isn't from someone's friend zone. it was level 30 when it arrived, after all.

also the friend safari is the best thing ever, extremely convenient. right now i'm just seeing what all my other buddies have.

Dragalge has pitiful special defense. Hit it with literally any special Psychic move and it'll go down.

Probopass has Sturdy, so hit it with some weak move then go full out Fighting or Ground and it'll die.

I'm trying to breed a male Spinda with max IVs for all stats but Attack so I can breed them into Abra
And now I have three females with max in everything but Attack on the first one, Sp. Attack on the second, and HP on the third.

Obviously. Its base Special Defense is 123, which is nothing to sneeze at (it's also its best stat).

i wouldn't say "a lot", but there was a trainer[i think one of the last in victory road?] who says "My body is ready".

Game Freak was having a field day when they made this game. I'm now 1000% sure they made the story so cliche on purpose to begin with.
And I'm completely loving it.

They do get annoying fast.
