I would argue it's slightly *less* cool? Before it was Starmie and Gengar. Before that it was Zapdos, Starmie and Gengar. And then Snorlax, Zapdos, Starmie and Gengar. Gengar's days are numbered Sad But then as the years go on there'll be new "always OU" pokemon, even if they weren't in gen 1. Though those'll drop too probably... hmm.

I'm assuming Zapdos got booted because of Stealth Rock, but why did Starmie get demoted? Is it just power creep?

Better spinners nowadays (well, just Excadrill, who was Uber and sweepin' last gen), and hugely down to Defog getting far better distribution. Slightly better grass types exist, (Bulkier anyway, and Breloom dies to Ice Beam so it doesn't count) but very largely down to the boons to Dark and Ghost types, coupled with power creep. Aerilate Quick Attack and Banded Brave Bird hurt too.

But actually stealth rock existed in 4th gen too, and Zapdos was OU then. That was ALL power creep! Zapdos is primarily a wall and OU brought in an awful lot of very, very powerful threats. Also, Thundurus completely overrode it's typing advantages.

In 2nd gen, Tyranitar has been OU always? That's not to say it hasn't dropped EVER. Like Alakazam last gen, it was UU until Magic Guard released. Scizor was BL and worse for a while, Celebi was Uber initially... Forretress, I think, has also always been OU, as has Blissey, but to be honest they're both outclassed now. Forretress by Ferrothorn and Skarmory, and is currently below the OU threshold, and Blissey has been usurped by Chansey, and is sitting RIGHT ABOVE the borderline (just above Volcarona. Brave Bird and better fire types sucks for it).

They are very distantly related to the gastly you gave me. Like 6 generations ancestor.

So far i have requests from ike squidopus and oj for gastlys. I should be online in pokemon when this forum post is about 3 hours old. It's currently 17:42 EDT.

(It's your own fault)
(Karma for wanting to use Gengarite)
(and only two posts down from an OU discussion)

But SPAAAAARRRK you're from Brazil you're supposed to be our football representative and call it football! Soccer is for the North Americans!

Although seriously that's hilarious. I wonder what the Japanese players are thinking??? It's the exact OPPOSITE of intimidation tactics. Maybe their opponents will collapse in a fit of laughter.

(I hope there's world cup event pokemon downloads)
(Just regular stuff)
(Pikachu with Electro Ball, and, say, Block, or Tackle)
(that'd be funny)

lmao what kind of sports are you playing, a lot of those (Sky Toss, Smack Down...Tickle????) would be illegal on the field of play! mspa And I don't think all of those are actually moves...lmao tickle though

That said it'd be cool to have different football-playing Pokemon with different personalities expressed via moves. Fan club Pichu with Taunt, Lovely Kiss, Lucky Chant, maybe Noble Roar... Team Manager Axew with Ally Switch and Withdraw and Substitute! Heheheh.

I think some people care more than I do.
Smogon is a good resource to help get a good feel for what archetype roles a pokemon can perform. Beyond that, it shouldn't have very much detail at all. It's like netdecking in MtG. Sure, you can build a carbon copy of someone else's deck, but it's usually better to build something that fits the role in addition to being a deck you're comfortable playing.

I dunno. If someone take Smogon as 100%-set-dogma, then they're missing the point - the sets they post are unequivocally the best standalone sets a particular Pokemon can run by itself; but they don't have complete team building guides, so the process falls apart after that. It's like my Clefable; Fire Blast and Calm Mind is a million times better than BoltBeam because you're not crapped on by Steel types. Yet Fire Blast Clefable does nothing for my team; BoltBeam does an awful lot. It's a highly-educated and backed collection of reference points, but it's not nearly enough to just pick the top sets of your favourite or the strongest Pokemon and throw them together. It's a very good thing that Smogon doesn't suggest Team structures; it'd be ALL WE SEE EVER.
Though the tiers are an entirely separate debate!

And on MegaGengar; it's mostly a joke. It's a sub-par sweeper without it's ability, admittedly with a lot of utility, but still, it's only broken in the hands of the top 2%. But then it's really really broken! A-tiered Uber! So really on random battles nobody really gives two hoots whether you use Uber stuff or not, because, well, there's no such thing ingame? I still battle with people when they're full of Palkia and Kyogre and Mega Blaziken. It's not as much fun though, since *in my personal experience* it's only the people who subscribe to competitive stuff that use fun and technical strategies! Even the Japanese players, who use a different meta, typically reduce use of the guys that the western OU deems broken, through, like, osmosis or something. *no knowledge of theoretical biology* Except for those free battles, but 3v3 is so different.

Ultimately, it's all about where the fun comes from. When people are using entirely random or weak moves (Charizard used Ember/Flamethrower/Flare Blitz/Hyper Beam, we've all seen it) you can't really strategise against them, or prepare, like you would in chess against a semi-capable opponent. It's only when you're playing against someone who's upping the ante that things heat up and the fun becomes so much more than just the thrill of having won. And where do people go to find out about these high-octane battles? Smogon!

disclaimer: I suck though. I never get the time to actually *play*. Sad Shit now I really want to?

Pokemon Strikers Football 2014: Electric Mouse Boogaloo, for Wii U.

Let's be honest though, given how desperate the Wii U is becoming and how Nintendo or Game Freak rarely go with the obvious option,

...

it could happen.

After I hatch my shiny venipede, I'm going to redo both my heracross and milotic. They're still good, but now that I have the knowledge and capability to IV breed, I want to make them better.

Pick one pokemon for whatever reason. You like it. You think it's strong. Etc.

Build a companion for it. And a companion for that one. Eventually you will have a synergistic team.

Of course that's all pared down. But you get the gist.

Alternatively, set roles for your team, and then flesh out these roles with the pokemon who will perform them the best while also complimenting one another. Weakness coverage. Bulk. Etc.
