Okay I can't beat that but I spent so much time on the smogon forums before BW's english release that the japanese names for the newer guys is somewhat ingrained in my brain and the names surface occasionally. Sazandora is an easy one but I don't know what the other one is.

zweilous and hydreigon's japanese names are literally the only ones i know, and that's from following B/W leaks before american names were revealed.

I am constantly reminded that Zapdos is Thunder, because it comes up whenever I search for Thunder (the attack) on Veekun. I remember that Moltres is Fire for a similar reason.

Jolteon is Thunders, which seems confusing with Zapdos, but whatever.

So I've been breeding to complete the pokédex, and I seen Purrloin.



Why is Purrloin standing up? Did I miss something? It wasn't mentioned anywhere that Purrloin could do this, except apparentally the anime, which shouldn't count. Not only that, it isn't haunched, it's perfectly poised straight, like it's always been bipedal. It's really jarring to see.

I have to agree with tinning; that pose just looks weird for Purrloin. If it was supposed to be bipedal, why is it sitting in its Sugimori art and Gen V sprites? Not to mention its box icon is still sitting, so we've got all kinds of inconsistencies going on.

It's just weird to look at that.

Also, the Anime doesn't count because there are a couple of things that work differently in the anime, like the cries of Pokemons for example.

Actually, if you look at it, the legs look nothing alike:

The anime gave up the right to be relevant when Pikachu aimed for the horn.

Just because it's sitting usually that doesn't mean it can't stand up.
Saying that Purrloin can't stand on its back legs based on a technically static sprite and image is weird for me.
Also, true that nobody said it can stand up, but also true that nobody said it can't.

different ways of viewing things i guess

1) The way it's standing in the manga is much more fitting, since cats ARE able to stand and even walk on only their hind legs, though they need to hunch over to do so. The picture in the manga looks MORE like a quadruped standing up then the one in the anime, which just looks like a biped.

2) The manga, just like the anime, has a different canon then the game. Heck, not even all the mangas share the same canon.

thats like saying the cyndaquil family having those red spots where the flames comes from is non-canon cause the games never showed/mentioned it, just the anime and manga

im pretty sure its more like an informed ability we didnt know about, if both the manga and the anime and now gen 6 did it then that must mean it was already something purrloin could do, alternate between being quadruped and bipedal
they just felt like using the quadruped "form" for gen 5, and are now demonstrating better that they can be bipedal
