Re: The Nickname Suggestion Thread
my gengar needs an appropriate physics-related equation for its nickname. it's the only ghost that i don't have an equation for yet
so far i have
froslass: -273 °C
drifblim: ρ = m/v
chandelure: 451 °F
dusclops: F = μN
golurk: Δp = Ft
those are all awesome but i can't think of any physics concepts related to gengar

Re: The Nickname Suggestion Thread
Something with this: Gaskonstante
After all, Gengar is still sort of related to gas, right?
If not you could do something with light I guess...

You mean PV = nRT? Yeah, that could work.

Re: The Nickname Suggestion Thread
oh my god that's brilliant
why did i not think of the ideal gas law
now, if only someone knew a good equation for buoyancy, i could give drifblimp a better name and everything would be perfect

You should do one with torque next.

Density is probably better suited for a Rock-type anyways. Maybe Steel too.

That's his Drifblim, except he forgot to capitalize the V (density is rho, in case you forgot).

I caught that like two seconds after I posted and then I surreptitiously edited it into something vaguely resembling a relevant post. Damn you for revealing my ruse CA.

Re: The Nickname Suggestion Thread
i used density for drifblim because it's related to buoyancy and i couldn't come up with a good, succinct equation for buoyancy
i replaced my golurk with an aegislash so the impulse nickname still makes sense

it doesn't. i'm using pokemon showdown, which lets you use most unicode characters, including greek lettersSharpedo wrote:SINCE WHEN DOES POKEMON LET YOU USE ALL THOSE WEIRD-ASS SYMBOLS?
Re: The Nickname Suggestion Thread
I don't know, there is probably a triangle you could use as delta, and I think there was a degree sign. Just get over yourself and write D instead of ρ and you're good.

Re: The Nickname Suggestion Thread
But it's a rho, not a delta, so you should use an R instead. And don't even think about using a P, unless you want to mix it up with momentum or pressure.

Re: The Nickname Suggestion Thread
The delta was regarding Golurk's name, Δp = Ft. And since it's Density, wouldn't D or d work...? I can't think of anything else D would stand for from a chemistry standpoint. Maybe there's something in Physics, I don't know.

Re: The Nickname Suggestion Thread
lower case p is usually momentum and upper case P is usually pressure
not sure what upper case D is used for. i know it's part of the parallel axis theorem (I + MD^2) but that's pretty situational
i just realized, i should probably change the impulse equation to the actual definition of impulse, using integral notation.
Δp = ∫Fdt is more accurate

I have it.
Hell, I have two. *shrug*

Re: The Nickname Suggestion Thread
alllrighty. i'll be catching a Yveltal soon, and there has got to be a multitude of great names for this thing, between birds of death/destruction in both mythologies/legends and in other games, but i legitimately cannot think of anything.
so far it's been
Bec Noir-black-n'-red[miles]-themed winged destroyer
Majora-wrath from the heavens kind of thing.
Helmaroc-really just because evil birds
been looking through this list, Camulatz seems fitting enough maybe.
i dunno. suggestions?
GTS was of course no help in spurring a name. best i saw there was "BACON LUGIA"

Re: The Nickname Suggestion Thread
Strix - a flesh-eating owl of Greek mythology
Chernabog - big bad demon from Fantasia
Banshee - hearing its shriek is an omen of death
Mictlantecuhtli - probably too many letters. Aztec god of death
Erebus/Erebos (careful with the "o" version, as it's currently a popular card in Magic: the Gathering.) - primordial deity in Greek mythology who fathered the titans
Thanatos - personification of death in Greek mythology

Re: The Nickname Suggestion Thread
Haha, Bacon Lugia.
You could call it Noirlecrow, same idea as Bec Noir but more 'bird' relevent.
Garuda.
Enoby Raven.
Gamma looks like a Y.
Psi is second last, like Y.
Lambda is upside down Y.
you could call it Xerneas to be wierd too.

Flufflepuff, because what else would you call the giant demon bird that is literally the incarnation of death?

Re: The Nickname Suggestion Thread
how about birdy
because it's a bird? and birds are cool and they deserve to be recognized as birds even when they've been stylized beyond recognition

I like Thanatos, it sounds like a Zelda boss.

My Yveltal is named Hades, so Thanatos seems appropriate.
