WOO YEAH! *high-fiiiive*
I've started to arrange my team around Malamar. Its typing has decided the starter I'm using...

Still planning to wing it based solely on Pokemon design, with my only-one-of-each-type subrule. Should be good!

- Ugh, I half-predicted that it would turn out to be a silly gimmick Pokemon. I mean, it's not like it would vastly improve and then get worse each time it "evolves", right? And Inkay looked like a fragile piece of trash. Unless I'm mistaking this and it doesn't evolve every time you hold the 3DS upside down during level-up.

- Spoiler:
- aw jeez i shouldn't have opened that
if i didn't know what its stats were really like, i could have used a malamar in blissful ignorance without constantly feeling disappointed like,
"aw man if your attack was just a little better you could have pulled off a 2hko there", or "gahh you could have tanked that hit if your sp.defense was actually decent"
but nope
althouuugh
mayyybe that one malamar just has really really terrible ivs and its stat spread is closer to the upper limit there??? if it has like 90/90/95/75/75/85 i would totally use it
i mean, it's unlikely that its stats are much higher than the probable averages there
but it's equally unlikely for them to all be very close to those exact values, right???
it's technically possible for its stat spread to be 70/55/60/79/45/90, as stupid as that stat spread is
really, anything between those two values for each stat is equally possible at this point
so i am going to keep hoping, and if somebody figures out for sure exactly what malamar's stats are, well, i'll just not look at them ever

Don't worry Muff. MOST of this gen's new Pokemon have at at spreads like that. getting Superpower is.pretty awesome.
Mechanics spoiler, probably pointless
They're obviously boosting defensive play this gen guys. Excepting megas, every second leak has confirmed this. It's actually really a relief, it was becoming a hyper hyper offense game. Though no defensive weather teams because of the turn limit, not without the actual moves.
Mechanics spoiler, probably pointless
- Spoiler:
Thank god. Tyrantrum is a notable exception, it's BST is HUGE but apparently its spread is weird! Loving the boons to ice types this gen, shame Technician applies to none of them. Freeze Dry is 70 power. and the hidden power thing is okay -as long as there's no type changes from last gen, YES it means my politoed is weaker now, but breeding just became way easier AND Roserade now can get a 90 base power fire move, woo hoo! Fire Blast being 110 is gonna hurt though. It's widely used because it narrowly gets a lot of OHKOs... Now it won't, which means a switch to flamethrower, which means a marked decrease in offense.

- how "huge" is tyrantrum's bst? what's so odd about its stat distribution? the "boons to ice-types"? what boons, exactly? and why does technician not apply to any of them? (isn't frost breath base 60 anyway? oh god technician frost breath would be so terrifying) how is roserade able to get a 90 power fire move? you say that right after mentioning hidden power, so i'm guessing that's what you mean, but hp is just base 60! and last but most, where are you getting all this interesting info???

Re: Pokemon news discussion 2: Spoiler Tag Boogaloo
That's probably the best news I've heard so far D_What. Up till now, I discounted all the more elaborate strategies as pointless if they required setup, because in two turns most Pokemon would be dead. Maybe it's finally time for me to start playing competitively.

Roserade has Technician HP Fire.
I think the main boon to Ice-types is Freeze Dry, not sure what else has happened.

I love these stats but while I am well aware that Shadow Tag is both fitting and insreadibly powerful, I'd really have prefereed it to keep Levitate. I'm just weird like that I guess...d_what wrote:No takers on shadow tag then? OJ, you like Gengar, how do you feel about a Pokémon with an excellent movepool, base 130 speed, base 160+ sp.atk and lots of resistances getting Shadow Tag?
Yes I said those stats, yes I am not joking.
That thing will wreck shit in Ubers.
Hehe, I hope some of you are gonna call one of your Gengars Cyano~d_what wrote:I for one quake in fear of our new Overlord related Overlord

Re: Pokemon news discussion 2: Spoiler Tag Boogaloo
Sorry brah, if I do train one (likely. Loved mine in 4th and nearly did it in 5th) then I'm calling it Chess. And it won't be a mega, ironically, except MAYBE in Ubers, Gengar's mega will not get used whatsoever. Sucks to be it I suppose. But that'd okay because possibly Regular Gengar got the most (currently known) meta boosts this gen besides Heatran and Azumarill.
Also that fairy move is Rough Play and is 90/90 with a chance to lower attack. Mawile gets it. Yay :|yeah I'm getting these from the smogon threads; spoiler, data collection and OU metagame looking-ahead thread. Gotta be on the look out for sudden plot or image spoilers though. All I want is thr mechanics!
Anyway Muff sorry for the typo: a lot of Pokemon are getting meh stats this gen. I am okay with this. More fun for the lower tiers! And OJ, Superpower is basically a no drawbacks powerful fighting move followed by a Bulk Up. Good, but not excellent coverage and totally fairy bait, also it doesn't have the stats to make proper use of it. In the lower tiers it'll be really cool though.

How is a 120 power, 100 accuracy move that boosts physical attack and defense not totally awesome on a physical focused Pokemon? I mean, yeah, no stab and not good against the new fairy type but Malamar wasn't going to be good against them anyways, it is a Dark type. Plus there's a fair chance that a Squid might get a decent Poison move.

Breaking news: all sixth gen pokemon have been officially revealed by serebii. There currently are no pictures for Yveltal, Frogadier, two forms of Pumpkaboo, and three forms of Gourgeist, but other than that, everything is out there.

And that's... it? There is really nothing else?
I am pretty disapointed in this gens Pokemon...
But I guess I better get to work now, after all, I said once we got the full dex I'd go and make a revisited form of it.

What I want to know is why their image of Vivillon has green wings instead of magenta.

Re: Pokemon news discussion 2: Spoiler Tag Boogaloo
Vivillon come in several different patterns. There's one that is polar, Ice-themed, that one is Grass or Ground themed. It's just aesthetic though.
- New type of battle:
Inverse battles. All type effectiveness is reversed.
- New item:
Safety Goggles. Hold item. Protects the holder from weather damage and powder moves. (Status powders, Powder Snow, Silver Wind, Spore, Cotton Spore, I believe.
- Another new item:
Assault Vest. Raises the holder's Defense, but you can't use any moves that induce statuses.
- Yet another new item:
Weakness Policy. Sharply raises the holder's Attack and Sp. Attack when hit by a super effective move.
- Really cool item:
Ability Capsule. Used item. When used on a Pokemon, swaps from its primary to its secondary ability.
- Weird thing revealed about Xerneas:
He has two forms.
The second one is the Active Form, which it's only in in battle.
- Really unimportant thing:
poké radar's back.
- Weird thing - legendary related:
Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres are found as roaming legends, but they flee before the bottom battle screen loads up. Sort of weird.
- New ability:
Competitive. Gothita and Jigglypuff lines have it. It sharply raises the holder's Sp. Attack when one of its stats is lowered.
- Another new ability:
Protean. Kecleon has it and it's Froakie's hidden ability. Changes your type to the type of the move you just used

You know, I'm really not that impressed by either version's exclusives. It's interesting that X gets both Houndour and Poochyena, though. To be honest, most of these are Pokémon I could transfer up from Black 2, and the rest I can just trade for pretty easily.
