Actually, I do have a legit question for you, HP: how'd you figure it out? Obviously don't give away your entire train of though, but whatever you can tell us while still being vague would be appreciated.

There's a mod tool on each post that says "find IP" so i clicked on that on one of sharpedo's posts and noted the other person also posting from the same IP address. it wasn't a train of thought. it was an "oh yeah i forgot i could do this" thing. obviously intended for weeding out clone accounts of people trying to skirt bans and whatnot. i realize that most people have dynamic IP addresses, but if two accounts log into the same place at roughly the same time, they have a pretty good chance of having the same IP address if both users log in during a single online session. i.e., without disconnecting from the internet in between. by disconnecting i mean turning off your wifi adapter or unplugging ethernet or something that makes it so you have literally no connection to the modem whatsoever.

That's more or less the most likely possibility I had come up with, but obviously I don't know everything you can do as an admin, so I wanted to find out for sure. And static versus dynamic addressing wouldn't make a difference here, because of how addressing works for IPv4. Basically, your ISP leases you an IP address for your router to connect to the internet, and then your router sets up a private network for your devices using one of a few different ranges of IP addresses reserved for just this purpose (e.g. 192.168.x.x). It's these private addresses that use dynamic versus static assignment, and you can't see them from outside the network. This has been your brief education in computer networking.

well see there you go. that's something i haven't learned yet and i'm in school for IT. granted, i just finished my first semester

also i can do almost anything as admin. it's kind of scary what kind of control they give you over the forum in the admin control panel.

ive heard admins had lots of scary stuff that they can destroy forums with on accident moderators usually do too but nowhere near as much nor as devastating
just remember with great power comes not destroying the forums that gave you that great power

i think they let me black hole the whole forum, but the really scary stuff is that i can go in and change your profile stuff. i mean i understand why partial admin access to your profile is a good idea, like if i need to censor someone's avatar or sig because it's porn or something

but then some other things are straight up 1984 nsa stuff like being able to change your password on a whim. literally the only reason i would see that being a thing that isn't automated is if one of you managed to lock yourselves out of your own account and i needed to reset the password to a random string. but that's best done by an automated process that isn't sapient or tempted to be malicious.

honestly i wouldn't touch your shit because i'm busy talking to my once-and-future-girlfriend/future wife though.

if someone writes up a css sheet and lets me preview it i might think about implementing it
