We're not having Delphox or Chesnaught, they wouldn't give us Charizard if they were also gonna be in it.

I reckon if we're getting any more Pokemon it'll either be Sceptile (cos bipedal grass starter- but pretty unlikely imo), Jigglypuff (im really ugh about this, i have always hated jigglypuff in smash, i really don't care that its a classic smash char, it needs to go), Blaziken (for M.Blaziken) or Mewtwo (cause Melee), but I'm of the personal opinion that we're not getting anything else from the Pokemon world. 'S just the feeling I get. Brawl had four Pokemon characters and Sakurai stated he wouldn't be adding as many newbies, so I think it'll stay the same number. And we currently have four so....

You are kidding right? Greninja is easily the favourite Kalos starter from what I've seen. Granted, it's more even than the obvious Gen 1 Charizard bias, but still, Greninja is REALLY popular. Pretty sure that #Team_Froakie was the biggest group, and that didn't decrease much with the evolutions like the other two groups did whe Quilladin and Delphox got revealed. Said popularity has only grown with its excellent competitive standing. Delphox and Chesnaught are comparatively crap when Greninja is in the playing field. Plus, it's a frickin' NINJA. It's well suited to Smash. Though it has to be said that all three are pretty well suited, but we've already got a slow and bulky (Chesnaught) fire type (Delphox) starter in the game.

I really don't think there's any Gen 6 more popular than Greninja, other than maybe Froakie itself, or perhaps Sylveon or the Legendaries? They're not gonna add the latter two for obvious reasons, and Sylveon is kinda out of place, though it could still come as a psuedo Jigglypuff replacement. Which would be cool.

EDIT: Just thought of another reason why neither starters will still be playable characters: Fennekin is a confirmed Pokeball occupant, and Chespin is seeming somewhat likely to be (reasons as to why provided by Spark in the thing he linked at the bottom of last page)

Yeah, the Froakie line was definitely the winner out of the Kalos starters. Fennekin did have a good chance before we saw the evolutions, but Greninja just stole all the attention. I am a little curious about Yveltal's conspicuous absence in all of the promotional media, since Xerneas has been in a screenshot and now this video. I would be extremely surprised if it became playable, but it's still odd that it hasn't shown up at all.

yeah i do see why greninja fits in ssb and i'm sure it will be fun to play as and all, but i just really dislike its design personally and that influences my opinion on this development
seriously there is nothing i like about its design at all
the weird gross tonguescarf, the bulbous thighs, the spike jutting out of its butt, the bulging white circles on its limbs, the bizarrely angular head that appears to be made out of construction paper, and so on
heck even its cry is all squelchy and gurgly and gross

specially because bellossom seems to be the singing pokémon of this gen and i think if jiggs did stop being playable theyd make her the new sing pokéball-mon
plus shes got a new type now so shes more relevant than ever

Guys, Jigglypuff was in Smash 64. There's no way they're cutting her out now. Just remember that it took a while for her to get revealed for Brawl, too, and she was a secret character then.

I got no particular feelings about Jigglypuff either way. Just so long as nobody interrupts my shipping it with Kirby. BitF got that much right.

Actually that about sums up my feelings on all the old smash bros characters making their way into a new game. If you want to play as those characters go play that game, because the last thing I want to see is people at Nintendo flipping out because every smash game has more and more characters and every single one of them is expected to make a return in the next game. Old characters are fine but I enjoy seeing new ones, and especially new characters taking on the functions of old ones. For example I would have been completely fine with Greninja replacing Sheik, who's really outdated by now anyways.

More pics of a whole bunch of stuff smash related, including the ones on the official website for all the characters revealed today. However, it's this one that we're mostly interested in. Looks like a Pokeball occupant if you ask me!

i don't think you quite understand. in skilled hands, dan hibiki will absolutely WRECK people in street fighter. yes, he's a joke character and he seems useless if you don't know how to play him. just like jigglypuff. having been forced into playing random characters literally whenever i sit down to play brawl with my family (mostly cousins and almost-brother-in-law [he's my first cousin's husband but we act like siblings enough that i basically consider him my brother in law]), i have played my fair share of jigglypuff. her skillset is kind of situational, but if you know what you're doing (down+b), you can dominate. just like dan hibiki. by the way, i usually main juri in street fighter 4 if anyone was somewhat interested. sometimes i use ibuki because of leftover affinity for sf3 third strike.

also i'm pretty sure the specific jigglypuff that found its way into smash bros is identified as female.

but yeah. the proper trope for both dan and jigglypuff is "lethal joke character" and not "useless joke character"

Mew was in a bubble in Pokemon Snap and Brawl, I believe. In accordance with its whole being a fetus thing. From the way it looks like it's above everything else, I'd guess it does the same thing it did in Brawl: dropping trophies, CDs, and other rare stuff while floating upwards out of the stage.
