[17:31:57] @ Gelatino : but needless to say, if you choose to just look at the pieces instead of the bog picture, you're not getting the full experience

[17:38:16] @ Gelatino : when you can figure out what the author is doing with these characters, and how it connects to a bigger picture

[17:42:44] @ Gelatino : a truly good piece of artwork has lasting effect

[17:43:56] @ Gelatino : even if you're fucking awesome at drawing pictures of karkat, that doesn't mean you have the capacity to inspire with your work

[17:47:09] @ Gelatino : if the art isn't saying anything beyond what's on the page, it doesn't present much of a challenge

Basically, the chatbox is a chatbox, not a thread. If you have something you want to share that not everyone will see, feel free to mention it on an actual thread, which are designed to be more permanent. The general chat thread isn't going to bite, and it's feeling a little lonely now and again.

Here's a bit of analysis on this wonderful short story that drega posted on the chat. It's called The Scarlet Ibis

[20:41:46] @ Gelatino : this says that life itself is a struggle for humans
[20:41:56] @ Gelatino : but the rewards of this struggle are great
[20:42:07] @ Gelatino : doodle did learn to walk eventually
[20:42:25] @ Gelatino : perhaps this represents the "life" imparted to him by his brother
[20:42:46] @ Gelatino : and of course, when you overcome one struggle, who knows what else you can do
[20:43:34] @ Gelatino : now i'm at the part with the ibis
[20:43:59] @ Gelatino : notice how when it dies, it's mentioned that "even death could not mar its beauty."
[20:44:26] @ Gelatino : there is obviously a parallel between doodle and the ibis; the author practically says it outright
[20:44:51] @ Gelatino : doodle is probably aware of this on some level too. he offers to bury the ibis
[20:45:09] @ Gelatino : "Sadly, we all looked at the bird. How many miles had it traveled to die like this, in our yard, beneath the bleeding tree?"
