i think its fine if you post it like after asking "should i post this to the chatbox thread" and other people say yes though, so long as youre not the (only) one who thinks it should be posted here

if its someone else's / collective though only your opinion should like be enough

that was pretty much only me and sometimes gel. everyone else may have had themselves in the conversations, but i think the reason they posted is because of the other's reaction to their messages was funny.

I mean i'm not going to mod this thread if someone posts their own chatbox ramblings, but I really do think that the rule should be: if you say something and you think it's funny, great. If someone else says something, regardless of whether you want to post it with or without context, then post it! But try to avoid posting ramblings that are almost entirely your own making.

i don't mind if you post the context for something like "that was so funny i pooped a little." rather, i want to see the context of what made someone laugh so hard that they pooped. but posting 20 lines of something you said earlier because no one else was listening then is kind of what i mean by masturbation. it's like the animal that does a trick but no one is watching so it moves somewhere else where people are watching and does the trick again.

and of course this is all hypocritical of me because i looooooooooooooove attention but i think it's a good suggestion to make. the thread will be a better place.

The problem is that a couple of times now I've said a lot of stuff on the Chatbox that it would be nice to keep, rather than have deleted after other people say words. For example the other day I had this really long and thought out argument about why I disliked the current stuff happening in Homestuck, and it crossed my mind to put it here. (Well, Gela deleted the chatlog a little bit later, so I never had the chance to anyways.)

The point of this thread is to immortalize things we find funny or cool or whatever that we say in the Chatbox. Another example: Gelatino keeps having these awesome rants, especially when nelly's around, but they just get lost to cyberspace even though I think the things he says are really cool, and he's ranted about his literary beliefs like three times now, which probably would be avoided if he had posted what he said here.

Like HP, I don't want this to turn into "hehe look funny words I said" and prefer it to be "hehe look funny words this guy said" and all the times I personally have been quoted here, other than that Minecraft thing I just posted (which I posted for the reason stated in the last paragraph), it was another person who was online at the time that decided what I said was funny and posted it here. I don't know if this movement started because of me, I just thought it would be important to say that.

i was reading up on the chatbox thread and the movement started after i saw three people in a row quote themselves.

as for immortalizing things, i can understand where you're coming from. but at the same time, if we were all sitting around at a table hanging out saying these things out loud, the only immortalization our words would have would be in our memories.

like i said before, i'm not coming in here and dictating forum rules or anything. i'm simply stating what i think would make the thread a good read.

I don't really give a shit if people want to post the stuff that they wrote on the chat. In fact I encourage it. It's really not hurting anything at all. This rule is silly and you are silly.

Maybe rather than a rule we should just say "As general advice, use discretion when you want to post stuff you or someone else said. Don't masturbate in public unless you have reason to."

...I can't think of any good reasons to complete this metaphor though.
