If both were guaranteed to happen in sequence, which would you rather have released next?

1. TBH I had no idea what Voting theory was until I googled it 5 minutes ago. TIL. I find Game theory really interesting generally, but we never covered it in college.
2. You don't have to apologise for not posting silly! It's just unusual when you suddenly stop.

4. I'm glad you're enjoying the SM stuff Muffinz! It's nice to see someone so excited about it. I wish I was as enthusiastic about any of them as you were about [grass type]. Not that I'm complaining or anything. It's just that we're 7 gens in and I only have 5 favourite Pokemon (6 if you count Swampert and Mudkip separately, which I don't) so I'm on the lookout for a "new favourite". Dragalge and Reuniclus were both loves-at-first-sight, but I grew to love Scizor and Talonflame. The former hasn't happened yet so far, but I guess I don't really expect it to.

Stench actually works on multiple level.
I do bath regularly, however, apparently I sweat easily and have very strong smelling sweat on top of that.
In game terms, Stench causes the opponent to flinch, but also, and in this case more importantly, reduces the chance for wild encounters. So it plays on the fact that I have trouble meeting new people.

I mean, I feel like the name "voting theory" is fairly self-explanatory. It's definitely interesting, though, especially given the train wreck of an election we're rapidly approaching.
Hey octi, what kinds of classes are you taking this semester?

Gotta admit I had to briefly google "voting theory" to actually figure out what exactly it would be, too
I'm taking a higher-level algorithms required course, an artificial intelligence course, constructive logic (which, as my friend says, is "a very unstructured course for a very structured topic"), and Modern Regression.
Mainly I am stressed because it's apparently hackathon weekend (Hack MIT, Hack the North, Hack CMU, etc.) and a bunch of my partners/groupmates for these courses are out of commission and I'm running around trying to pick up the slack.

As a mod, I'm not really sure what my official stance should be on this.
As a denizen of the internet, I've read too many (read: more than one) sordid RP logs between youths on deviantart to not be a little weirded out by the conjunction of the term "kinky" and the existence one of our younger members.
As a human male of the platonic "older brother" archetype; uhh, wrap it before you tap it, bruh?
E: oh yeah this reminds me of a story! My friend's younger sister (probably ~17-19 or thereabouts) recently got "knocked-up"; if that has any connotations that "became pregnant" doesn't, good, because those connotations are relevant here - the dude is in his early 30s, didn't finish school and has been unemployed for most of his adult life. But the fun doesn't stop there. My friend told me her mom's not talking to her sister anymore because they found out via a *local news site* that yer man has 72 CONVICTIONS. I mean, 2 would be an achievement. It's like a cartoon. On the flip side, the baby is healthy and has a family that cares for it so yeah :V

Discord can choke on its own puss and bile in hell.
Skype sucks but it's FAR better then Discord for me.
Also, the "kinky" part is mostly us making memes out of fetishes.
As for the pregnancy thing, I hope that turns out alright.

I didn't know it was my job to summarize the news, but I'll go ahead anyways.
Next set of news is scheduled for October 4th. There's also a bit of info on Bank's compatibility with S&M and the Virtual Console RBY releases. You won't be able to return Pokémon to Gen VI games from S&M, and you'll need to use Poké-Transporter to bring stuff up from RBY.
- Spoiler:
- First up, the English reveal of Rockruff's evolution, Lycanroc. Its forms are version-exclusive, so Sun players only get the Midday form and Moon players only get the Midnight form. Both forms can have Keen Eye, but the Midday form gets Sand Rush while Midnight gets Vital Spirit. Next, some more version exclusives. Sun gets the Fighting-type Passimian, a monkey with the new Receiver ability, letting it inherit a fainted ally's ability in double or triple battles. Moon instead gets Oranguru, a white and purple Normal/Psychic orangutan; it can have Inner Focus and Telepathy, and it gets the new move Instruct, which makes the target instantly reuse the last move it used.
Onto miscellaneous stuff. Pikachu and Eevee are both getting unique Z-moves, to no real surprise. Pikachu's is a straight damage move, while Eevee's boosts all its stats by two stages. The animation for Eevee's also shows off all of its evolutions, so if you were hoping for a new one this time around, you're going to be disappointed. Pokémon-Amie has apparently been replaced by Pokémon Refresh, which seems to let you do most of the same things, plus groom your Pokémon and cure them of status conditions. Finally, I've saved the best for last: trainer customization has officially returned. This time around, you use a new currency called Festival Coins, and according to Serebii, you'll be able to dye white clothes different colors.

Re: Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon: Spoilers ahoy ☀
Unrelated to all of the Pokemon stuff, which was definitely interesting (and full of .gif potential, though not so much as the pancake one...), I recently found out that the word "Drawer" was difficult to pronounce correctly.
On googling, it turns out that one of the quirks that happens in the US is "DR-" becomes "JR-". As in, Drawer, Dragon, Drapes, Drama becomes Jrawer, Jragon, Jrapes, Jrama. I'm a little shocked. Not because I haven't heard it pronounced that way, but just that I haven't noticed it already. I definitely use the hard D. I can feel the difference in my mouth. yes this is a thing i said
I also spent some of yesterday teaching a German exchange student how to play Pokemon cards, before I had to pick up my dad from a train station. I told her I was worried I'd mispronounce her name, and in the past I'd googled my German coworker's name (Helge) because I didn't want to make a bad first impression by mispronouncing her name even though it seemed straightforward.
And then the girl asked was I sure my coworker was a girl, because Helge is typically a male name. I had no idea, I'd only heard of Helga before, didn't think there was a difference.
And the weird thing is, it's a little bit of a question mark?? But that's not something I'm gonna ask about because there are things you don't do in the workplace and with either answer that particular question is definitely one of those things you don't do :V

It's not exactly "jr-". It's kind of halfway between a "d" and a "j". And it definitely varies depending on where in the country you go.

Re: Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon: Spoilers ahoy ☀
- the pokemon stuff:
- tbh, this is the first new set of information where i don't have anything i'm overly enthusiastic about :V
like, the two primates are each cool ideas and i can recognize them as Good Designs, but they're not really my "thing" personally and i don't see myself using them. i mean y'know, i LIKE 'em, i just don't LOVE 'em like i do 90% of other gen 7 designs :V
the Z-moves are neat i suppose, and i'm glad to see they can be status moves as well as just attacks, but they're just not all too exciting to me personally. my main interest in pokemon games(rather, my main obsession in pokemon games :0000)is on the pokemon themselves-- their designs as well as stats, types, and so on-- and so "here's some really cool and powerful moves with crazy animations" is fun enough but like... not as interesting to me as mega evolutions, 'cause at least those are new designs with cool concepts and they change the way a pokemon functions in battle :V
i like both forms of lycanroc fairly well, and i'm CERTAINLY glad to finally have its name, but nothing we saw about it is all that New or Special. both forms being pure rock is, eh, just mildly disappointing to me, and the abilities aren't all too interesting. still though, i very well may end up using one or the other in some playthrough sometime!
uhh let's see, what else has been going on in my life besides being hyped for pokemon? well, over the past few months i've been steadily producing a Metric Fuckton of drawings and sharing them in the skype chat :V it's been a Fun Experience. i mean, most of them are just quick messy unrefined sketches and such, but just being able to draw a lot and show it to people feels really great and i'm loving being able to do it... y'know, as opposed to before where i'd draw Just A Little and hide it away from the world :y
as i said it's an absolute fuckton so i'm certainly not gonna just DUMP everything on all your heads right here and now, especially since like 90% of it isn't even good. maybe from time to time i'll just drop a few of the most recent doodle pages :V

Re: Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon: Spoilers ahoy ☀
in which I discuss various SM rock types:
keep up the drawing Muffinz! The road to progress is, uhh, the first half of a pithy aphorism, probably.
I'm mildly annoyed because I was expecting my Keldeo/Rayquaza decksto have shipped yesterday morning. But when I logged into the seller's site, they'd changed the official release date to the 5th of october; that's a full two weeks away! I got in contact with them and they apologised and said there was a manufacturer delay. So there isn't anything I can do about it... but it would have been nice to be told *before* I had to complain about it >:/
- Spoiler:
IMO mono rock is actually more interesting than most dual types they could be (though I wouldn't have objected per se to a Normal/Rock, for Normal type love). There are so few mono Rocks and even less are actually interesting. Plus, let's be honest, Rock/Dark (or actually any typing + Dark...) is a cliche that already has an awesome Pokemon in Tyranitar. Rock is definitely among the "lesser" types, I hope either Lycanroc (or a possible evolution) ends up being really great.
BTW DAE think Lycanroc is a terrible name? There's no pun overlap. And Roc is a mythical bird. There are *soooo* many other better names they could have used.
Semirelated; I like to commit early to one weird dark horse Pokemon during new gens. Last time it was Skrelp and that worked out wonderfully. I was thinking of using Rockruff in-game, not because I liked it very much or because it was a dark horse (it isn't) but purely for the interesting Rock typing; now that it's actually evolved... eh. Too much deviantart OCishness for my tastes. I'm thinking of committing to Minior instead, but it's got me wondering:
What are the odds it'll evolve? On the one hand, it has a pretty tidy standalone design. On the other hand, it's very small and very simple. I'm reminded of firstly Solrock and Lunatone, who are standalones, but also of Honedge, who initially everyone thought would be a standalone because of a very complete initial design. I don't mind using a standalone, but it looks like it'll be fairly weak a lot of the time, so idk if I'll be achieving much with it. (especially when I'll have two flying types on my team :O ) "Mini"-or suggests a potential for progressive evolutions. IDK. Thoughts, initial bets?

Re: Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon: Spoilers ahoy ☀
- talkin' 'bout one rock in particular:
- i feel like trying to determine whether a pokemon will evolve or not based purely off of its design isn't particularly easy or reliable :V it can be so hard to predict where any one particular evolution line will go based off of a single member of it, especially in this day and age of the pokemon series.
instead of design, i think looking at other aspects is a more reliable way to tell-- for instance, i could normally see crabrawler evolving into something else, but apparently at some point they showed off its strength by showing gameplay footage of it OHKOing a cresselia and something else, iirc! i didn't see the footage in question myself, but spark could back me up on that :V but yeah, i find it hard to imagine a NFE pokemon having an attack stat high enough to do something like that, which tells me crabrawler does not have an evolution.
that's what confuses me about minior though, is that i get total mixed signals from it... normally, any pokemon with multiple distinct forms that are switched between through its unique ability is either fully-evolved and the only member of its line with the ability (see: aegislash, darmanitan), or a standalone pokemon with no evolution line (see: wishiwashi, castform). so with THAT in mind, one would assume minior doesn't evolve into anything, right? but....... it's got "MINI" right there in its name. and how often do you see a fully-evolved or standalone pokemon with the word "mini" in its name??? and with all the other traditions they've proven themselves willing to break in sun and moon, i could feasibly see gamefreak deciding to go against that unspoken rule and give form changes to an entire evolution line instead of just one member. soooo, i guess i could tentatively say it will probably evolve?? maybe? honestly, it's hard for me to confidently make any predictions about ANY pokemon by this point :0
EDIT: actually, i forgot to mention that minior is one of the pokemon we have seen the HP of!! now, it seems like pre-release footage and trailers always give 0 IVs and 0 EVs to every pokemon that appears in them, which allows people to accurately figure out the base HP of anything with its HP total shown on-screen. minior in particular has 60 base HP, which........ doesn't tell us much??? it's low enough for it to plausibly be a NFE and high enough for it to plausibly NOT be. so, uh, yeah. :T
for the record, other interesting HP stats include pyukumuku having 100 base HP and vikavolt having i think 78? iirc those were the only other ones worth mentioning.

It's true, Helge is a mostly male name, as opposed to Helga. In german, there are lots of names like that, like Paul and Paula. German is a very gendered language, no idea why.
And then the girl asked was I sure my coworker was a girl, because Helge is typically a male name. I had no idea, I'd only heard of Helga before, didn't think there was a difference.

I mean, English has plenty of gender-specific names too. It's probably because they belong to people, rather than inanimate objects.

I've always liked Bob for a girl. And the association is so strong now that whenever someone says "Bob" I immediately assume they're talking about a girl.
SM:
Paul and Paula are possibly not the best example of German gendered names because they also exist in English :V There's a lot of gendered *variations*, though. Like Michelle, or Jane.
E: oh yeah. I worked it out and I'm 10k short of being able to comfortably purchase a house I want, or a house I'm okay with with a minimal mortgage. I'd need 16k to do both. It's really frustrating since by the time I have the money the house prices will likely rise I'll set up a kickstarter :V

Re: Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon: Spoilers ahoy ☀
You know what time it is! We've got a fresh new trailer, hot off the presses.
In non-S&M news, apparently the arcade version of Pokkén Tournament is getting a new character. No word on what it is or if it'll be coming over to Wii U as well.
- Spoiler:
- First and foremost, the stars of the show, the middle starter evolutions. They don't change types from their first stages, so just go check out their designs. Interestingly, Litten's evolution Torracat stays quadrupedal, which we haven't seen in quite a while. Mega Evolution has also been officially confirmed to return, not that it should be all that surprising; no new Megas were shown yet, so that's still up in the air.
Next up, a few new features. We've got the new Festival Plaza, which looks to be similar to B2W2's Join Avenue; as you help out other trainers there, you'll earn Festival Coins to spend at the shops, which can do stuff like boosting EVs. There's also the new Poké Pelago, a special minigame-esque area where you can send Pokémon from your boxes to collect items, attract new team members, train up, and possibly more.
Finally, S&M are getting their own demo in two weeks. No word on the distribution method as of yet, but you'll be using a special Greninja with the new ability Battle Bond, which turns it into Ash-Greninja when it knocks out an opponent; you'll be able to transfer it over to the full game.

- Spoiler:
- mega stones are now bought for BP
there's a new Battle Team system replacing battle box - six teams you can customize and name (and pokémon can be shared between them). you can also share QR codes of them and let people borrow your teams
finally, in the spanish website a new stone was revealed in a screenshot - ice stone! probs for evolving a-vulpix.
there actually is word on the distribution method for the demo - you just go on and get it from the eshop like normal (or you can get it from nintendo's website).
also torracat is best i love it

In unrelated discussion, I passed my driving test I was late doing it, given that my younger sister got it years before I did, but I've never really been into driving. In any case: Flying colours, yay.
Also there are no houses for sale anywhere. ;_; housing crisis!!
-------------------------------------
kinda tangental pokemon stuff; a couple of months ago I preordered 4 Keldeo/Blastoise battle arena decks (2 for me, 1 on behalf of friend, 1 for xmas present for other friend) with some other stuff. The release date was initially the 21st of september, and I've ordered with these guys before and they usually ship the day before to guarantee the customer gets the product on release. Anyway, day-of, I check my emails for shipping notifications and check the site for updates... they'd changed the date to October 5th without telling anybody. I complained on FB and they said there were production issues and they'd send out an apology email (they didn't). Anyway, for those with their eyes on a calendar, the 5th was yesterday. Checked the site... they'd changed it to the 14th!! And still no email! But apparently they'll *definitely* ship next week. Suuuuure.
*le sigh*
- Spoiler:
I still haven't looked at Rowlet's evo. I've *seen* it, in random images or suggested videos, but I've avoided actually giving it the once over. So I'd recognise it in a lineup but wouldn't be able to draw it. I hope I'm more successful when the final evos are released/leaked.
Smogon/Showdown are *absolutely* going to work on an autogenerate QR feature for their platforms so you can build teams on the sim, scan, and play them IRL. It's predictable, and wonderful.
Everything looks good so far. (Although I bet they haven't touched Parental Bond yet.) Looking forward to the demo!

In other news, Coro Coro is starting to leak. We don't have much yet, so there'll probably be a more in-depth post later.

- Spoiler:
- The only new thing we can see in the photo is Alolan Grimer, which is apparently Poison/Dark; it's juxtaposed against Alolan Meowth for some reason, but Serebii's analysis doesn't have any mention of this part. The source of the leaks has also made a few claims about evolutions for new Pokémon, but there are no pictures, so take these with a grain of salt. Supposedly, Jangmo-o evolves twice, and one or both of its later forms are Dragon/Fighting. The more interesting tidbit is that Type: Null is purported to evolve as well; its evolution apparently has the new ability AR System, which changes its type based on the held item like Multitype.

Well, Coro Coro delivered.
And in non-S&M news, the arcade version of Pokkén Tournament gets Scizor as a new playable character in a week.
- Spoiler:
- It looks like all the stuff we didn't have images for has been confirmed. Both of Jangmo-o's evolutions are Dragon/Fighting, judging by the type icons by them compared to the one by Jangmo-o itself. Type: Null apparently evolves when it finds a trainer it trusts, at which point it destroys its helmet. Much like Arceus, the evolution is normal by default, but it can change to any of the 17 other types with a special held item called Memory; Serebii's not sure if it's a single item for all the types or multiple ones like Arceus's Plates yet. Either way, it also gets a new attack that changes type based on its held item.
