If both were guaranteed to happen in sequence, which would you rather have released next?
Re: Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon: Spoilers ahoy ☀
Okay, okay, I thought really hard about how much I liked Malamar but ended up booting him off for Aggron.
As for bred/trained--I have a nice Alakazam/Metagross sitting around, but not much more than that for my hypothetical team. They're all just Pokes I've played with in-game.

Yeah, I haven't really bred any of mine either. I would have included Malamar, but Alolan Muk and Metagross already had those types covered, so it felt redundant.

That reminds me. I still have copies of the Malamar/Crobat/Sharpedo/Gengar/Jolteon from that giveaway lying around. And a random Charmander I bred for Octi, I think? It's called Firecracker, but I don't remember why.

I feel like I'd remember if I played Warframe, if I played Warframe? Moreover, I'd probably know what Warframe is. Imma call coincidence.
Was getting back to SR'ing a Raikou - even with Hyper training, Hidden Power's a bitch - and lo, the top comment on the current Smogon viability ranking thread is talking about Raikou sets. Poor Raikou lost a lot this gen :<
Also, loathe as I am to complement SM, the way they handle Battle Boxes is *really* nice.

Re: Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon: Spoilers ahoy ☀
Well, we've got another trailer. Damn these games are shaping up to be interesting. They're also ready to preload from the eShop in Japan, Europe, and North America, clocking in at just under 3.7 GB.
- Spoiler:
- First up, Team Rocket's back as Team Rainbow Rocket. Giovanni's back in charge (assuming he stepped down in this timeline), and he has Mewtwo somehow.
Maxie, Archie, Cyrus, Ghetsis, and Lysandre are going to be showing up in some capacity too, but it's not clear whether it's related to Team Rainbow Rocket or the information that came right afterward.
Which brings us to the Battle Agency,
a facility similar to the Battle Factory of old where you rent Pokémon to use in single battles; it seems like you can battle both other players and major NPCs. Serebii's got some additional info that wasn't in the English trailer:
you can get rewards like Gold Bottle Caps, and your options for rental Pokémon are affected by the number of players you interact with in Festival Plaza.
Next up, there's a new scavenger hunt: Totem Stickers.
It's not clear whether this is replacing the Zygarde sidequest or not, but the idea is that collecting enough stickers lets you get Totem-sized Pokémon, whatever that means. While the English trailer didn't mention anything about it, Serebii claims that only Ultra Sun will be able to get Lurantis this way, while Ultra Moon gets Salazzle instead; both seem to be able to get Gumshoos, oddly enough.
Finally, all non-event legendaries from past generations will be available through the Ultra Wormholes. Much like HGSS and ORAS, trio leaders need both of the other trio members present; Serebii's list mentions Giratina, Suicune, Rayquaza,
Kyurem, and Landorus. Naturally, the other two trio members get split between the two versions, as do duos; for the most part, the ORAS split has remained unchanged, with Ultra Sun getting Omega Ruby's exclusives and Ultra Moon getting Alpha Sapphire's, but Dialga and Palkia were switched for some reason. Additionally, Ultra Sun gets Raikou, Heatran, and Xerneas, while Ultra Moon gets Entei, Regigigas (no really), and Yveltal.

Okay, the RR remix was really neat (+2), but then they reused XY's Kanto legendary theme (-2 for lack of effort). Net gain/loss of 0 hype points.
- Spoiler:
it's not just old clothes. It's literally OG Archie and Maxie (and friends) - not just a costume throwback. They're the RSE versions of themselves - you can tell, because SM's version of Archie would be, uh, differently pigmented! (and probably a different race or whatever.)Spark Eletran wrote: i hate that archie and maxie are in their old clothes btw its fucking awful
Kinda weird though. The same Lysandre exists in this universe, so Gio probably didn't have to dimension hop very far to find him. So why would Giovanni go to the effort of pulling an entirely alt-universe/timeline version of Archie and Maxie (and presumably Cyrus and Ghetsis, to be confirmed in the inevitable remake featuring megas and redesigns, probably) when he could have got the ORAS versions, who likely exist in a much closer phase space?
...Who am I kidding. The plot behind this is going to be weaker than Ninjask's defenses. Imma just roll with it.
Also lol because I got to say phase space in a mostly serious conversation.

Re: Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon: Spoilers ahoy ☀
- Spoiler:
- Oh man, I didn't even notice that Archie and Maxie were using their old designs, but you're right. Of course,
we do need to wonder which timeline(s) the other four are from, and what point in their personal timelines they've reached. From Serebii's screenshots, it seems that Archie and Maxie still identify as members of Teams Aqua and Magma, which could suggest that they haven't realized the dangers of their goals yet. Meanwhile, Ghetsis is wearing his BW outfit, rather than his B2W2 outfit, implying that he probably comes from some time before N awoke Reshiram/Zekrom.

- Spoiler:
- nah yeah I know it's Actually the og ones. I just said clothes bc they're the most striking part.
but original archie and maxie look actually so bad and boring tho. it's awful
also iirc a leak about rainbow rocket before this announcement said that they're all team leaders from a universe where their plans succeeded. it's not confirmed yet, but given that it got rainbow rocket right, it's somewhat likely to be true (or have been at some point in development)

Heeeeey spark. Question from last page. If you had to make a competitive team, but only out of your top 5 favourites, (saving obvious things like Mudkip, which wouldn't function) what would they be?
Alternatively written: if you were basically Cynthia, out purely to curbstomp kids and challenge player characters with your faves, what would they be?

- Spoiler:
SVETA IS ON THE TEAM AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
and assuming the team are the people we're following at least in part for the main story and it's not some horrible takeout where they all get killed in the last prelude by our main character, that basically guarantees more Weld cameos!!! I wonder if Jessica Yamada will show up??
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH <3 I love Sveta and can't wait to see her in a major role!

Leaks are leaking. I've browsed most since I don't care this time.
Behind the button are thoughts regarding new movepool additions to existing Pokemon, read them if you want.
Yo IT if you don't want general spoilers but do want to hear about a small buff to one of your faves click below
I'm still very whelmed.

- Spoiler:
Defog tutor, finally. All sorts of neat stuff gets it - predictably Tornadus, Talonflame (rip in gen 6 sweet prince), Poison heal Gliscor, all the Pelippers and Mantine you could want... Tapu Koko (mmm), Serperior (???), Rotom (!!!), Klefki (!!!!!!), Volcanion (mmm), Silvally (uh... sure?), Volcarona (uh?), Kartana () ... LANDORUS-THERIAN (UBER PLZ)
Liquidation is a tutor move too, which is nice for some Water types. Various things get Drain Punch. Kommo-o gets Close Combat. Ash-Greninja gets Gunk Shot but idk if it'll use it since it doesn't have Protean. Lucario got Meteor Mash. Neither Bulu nor Koko got that physical Fairy move that I've forgotten, but the other two did.

Barbaracle gets Liquidation! +10 base power and perfect accuracy traded for a reduction in the defense lowering chance over Razor Shell.

Re: Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon: Spoilers ahoy ☀
It's definitely some interesting info. This is going to be one unusual generation for sure.
- Spoiler:
- In addition to the three new Ultra Beasts that have already been revealed, there are going to be two more new species: a Poison/Dragon evolution for UB Adhesive, and a new Electric event legendary that's going to be a speedy attacker.
There's also a third new form for Necrozma, a Psychic/Dragon type with insane stats (better BST than Mega Rayquaza or Arceus), because who needs game balance anyways.
Sadly, there aren't going to be any new Alolan forms,
and there's still no National Dex. I'm really hoping that part of the leak is wrong.

Spoiler-related thoughts on visual design
- Spoiler:
I've liked basically all the designs for the different things this gen (Prism-armor legends excepted - god they look so incoherent) but DAE think that Zeraora (lightning mythical) looks
super
SUPER
laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame
As though someone said "Hey, you know when we made Lucario, and it was really popular? Let's make a pokemon that's also really popular! Quick, get out the Lucario template" and then ramp up on the Shinx gene with a generic anime furry thrown in there somewhere.
Just... laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame
What's it even supposed to DO besides exist? Other mythicals have had some sort of clear design intent. This genuinely looks like someone in a boardroom said "we need an anime protagonist for our new series and we need it yesterday, what do kids these days like".

Not-very-productive response to spoiler-related thoughts on visual design
I'm actually really conflicted as to whether or not to buy one of the new games; on one hand it's another Pokemon game and those are generally fun, but on the other it seems like there are a lot of negative things being said about them from people who have actually been following the news. And since I'm planning on dropping some nontrivial amount of money on Odyssey, is it really worth it? Hmmm.
- Spoiler:
Not going to lie, my first thought when I saw Zeraora was "that looks like a Sonic character."
Also not going to lie, I think it's kind of cute as an anime protagonist. But it still looks like a Sonic character in a Pokemon game so I don't really know how to feel about it yet.

Re: Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon: Spoilers ahoy ☀
Yeah I'm only buying it because I'll be on monitoring duty overnight during Black Friday-Cyber Monday and I'll need something to keep myself entertained/awake, and in prior years those things have been new video games. I don't have a Switch, which really just leaves USUM; if it wasn't for that I'd probably skip them until at *least* I have a house paid for. I'm definitely not buying them on Release.
I'd buy Odyssey if I had a Switch, and I'd be very happy with it. And eventually Splatoon 2, maybe the Champion's Ballad DLC for BotW if it turns out to be good.

Re: Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon: Spoilers ahoy ☀
- Spoiler:
- Zeraora is a cool design imo but.... yeah it does feel a lil like they gave up even further. From gen 4 to now we've gone from events that let us catch and experience some nice cutscene stuff, to being gifted them with a lil bit of lore and special interactions, to just straight-up being given them with zero explanation whatsoever (not even in the anime, in Marshadow's case). It's a lil sad.
Ultra Necrozma looks fucking /awesome/ and I'm glad it exists, even if it also looks broken as hell. Its Z-Move, Light that Burns the Sky, is..... actually the most ridiculous thing tbh? Please google and check it out if you haven't yet.
Naganadel is cool too, the Pokémon and additions are rad in general, but... it just doesn't feel worth it, especially since the main story has nearly the same feel as SM apparently (even if it has some changes starting with the Aether raid). I really really think it's time to retire third versions as a concept, at least the 'enhanced version with some slight changes to the story and visuals'.
odyssey is SO GOOD tbh. I think GotY goes to it for me? But it's pretty contested between BotW and Odyssey depending on the person.
(also I suck at competitive so I cant answer ur question)

Re: Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon: Spoilers ahoy ☀
- Spoiler:
- I saw someone describe Zeraora's design as an attempt to combine Pikachu, Lucario, and Zoroark into what should be on paper the ultimate marketable Pokémon.
Considering I haven't really seen any positive comments on the design yet, I don't think it worked.
I still need to get a copy of Breath of the Wild. I'm in the same camp as d_what as far as Odyssey goes; I'll try to get a Switch one of these days, but it still doesn't feel all that urgent.

Definitely pick up BOTW. Purely coincidence, but I've got the soundtrack playing right now on YouTube. It has the same sense of infinite play/discovery that all games used to have when we were kids. Not related:

Re: Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon: Spoilers ahoy ☀
I've decided I don't want to get USUM. At least not now. The reviews are solidly good, yeah, but they're always saying "the definitive version of SM" and "a more polished SM" with "some new content"... so, as standalone games they probably do deserve those scores, but from the perspective of someone who's already paid for SM, they're... not a new experience? Never mind from the perspective of someone who found SM intensely disappointing as time went on. I don't want to feel that way again about a Pokemon game. I hope everyone else enjoys them.
I might pick it up in February. February's always a grim month I find. Something about winter gloom + no major events + bad time to take a holiday because the holiday season passed a month ago, so I might be interested in a distraction then.
In the meantime, I still need to buy a game for my overnight shift next weekend. Any suggestions, for Wii U/3DS?

I didn't actually need to buy anything, as it turns out - I was too busy to play much of anything, and the shift was early/short enough that I didn't need anything to keep me awake.
All that said,
So how's everyone finding USUM? The vox pops I've heard here and there have more or less secured my initial position if not exaggerated it. I'd never considered that third versions in this day and age are actually *poor form* on GF's part since we live in an era of DLC, when such a thing would not have been possible with Emerald or Platinum.
All that said,
- Spoiler:
I still haven't bought USUM and yet managed to nab Amazon's Cyber Monday flash deal to get a Switch + Odyssey + M+Rabbids bundle for 100 euros less than I could get them anywhere else. So I've that to look forward to.
Well, that and the whole "home ownership" thing.

Yeah, pretty much my stance on it is - good games, in a vacuum. If you didn't buy SM, probably buy these (though I think I prefer SM's story on a certain level). But if you bought SM? Probably not worth 40 more bucks, unless you've got money and time to spare and are interested in the improvements shown.
The thing that infuriates me the most is that this cements my biggest worry - on one hand, if I buy the first game of each generation shown I'll lose out on the improvements the inevitable enhanced version will bring... but on the other, those enhanced versions aren't inevitable now that we've had BW2 instead of Grey and also no Z version, and not buying the first copy means staying much more out of date. So it's a lose-lose situation, kinda, though I think I'll stick with buying the first ones and hope the enhanced ones are either non-existant or way more of a brand new game.

^Agree with Spark and have done all the way back when I was teeni babby and thought that while Emerald was objectively better than Ruby, I enjoyed Ruby more because it was a new experience. Le sigh. Likewise for Platinum and BL2 (to an admittedly lesser degree).
I don't know how friends work on the Switch, mine hasn't dispatched yet but is there anything I'll have to do to get you guys added? Yes I could Google it but that's a boring solution to most of life's little mysteries. In practice, I think I've played with Muffinz exactly once in Splatoon and that's been the extent of my Wii U interactions??
Heheh. And then there was the time Spark and I sparred on KI:U for the 3DS. That was fun, wouldn't mind a Switch sequel if they could work out the controls. Sniper no sniping!

I'm running a Pokémon tcg Cube sesh with some of the guys from the Dublin league on Sunday, it's gonna be totes baller. The current cube is great Wish you guys played! https://m.imgur.com/a/GAAg2

I'm closing on the house on the 11th of December lots of furniture and house decorations to get before then!
I'm going to be so broke.
