Guys i'm disappointed that only NinteNerd mentioned Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door.
Good on you, NN. That game is pretty much perfect.

Re: What are your favorite games
ttyd is an awesome game but it's just not on my favorites list. It's up there though.
Re: What are your favorite games
If I had to pick five games, I'd probably go with:
Dota 2
Team Fortress 2
Batman: Arkham City
Dust: An Elysian Tail
Path of Exile
I didn't leave space for future games because this is a favorite game thread, and a game you haven't played can't be your favorite.
I also think that Skyrim is actually not that good. So there.

Re: What are your favorite games
why do people call it dota, why not just call it defender of the aztecs, it's not that much longer, also dota is a weird word
Re: What are your favorite games
well technically it's called defense of the ancients and as far as thousand year door is concerned it's one of my favorites but i was really aiming toward bringing up games that no one else had mentioned already like bastion.
you should play bastion.

I've played through Bastion twice. I would have included it on my list if Dust: AET wasn't longer and better.

I'd say that while it has a lot of options available to the player, it can feel like more time was put into the cool stuff you can do and less time was put into the animation of the other characters. It can be really boring sitting in a circle with, say, the Companions and watching different mouths move for ten minutes. Maybe if they moved their bodies more than a little shuffle every once in a while this would have been avoided.OverlordJ wrote:Why not, if I may ask?cerebralconfinement wrote:I also think that Skyrim is actually not that good. Re: What are your favorite games
It's just way too big and open. You can do literally everything; there is no such thing as specialization. As a result, each big accomplishment just doesn't feel as big. Being archmage isn't that impressive when you're already leading an assassin's guild and in service to a Daedra.
This also applies to the main quest, which has a few more problems with it. First, the Dragon Shouts are kind of lackluster, especially since they're Skyrim's Thing. Compared to Oblivion's Thing, the Oblivion Gates, they just aren't flashy or even impactful. Then there's what happens at the end of the main quest - that is to say, nothing. There is no real conclusion; you're just thrown back into Skyrim to do the same shit you've been doing for the last thirty hours.
I mean, don't get me wrong; it's still good, and I loved the main quest. It's just got too many issues to make it a great game.

Honestly, most of the times I just ignore the mainquest and do my own thing...

Re: What are your favorite games
I'm actually starting to play oblivion since I got a good price at a CeX shop. I imagined it being like Fallout 3 which had a great start and eased you into everything, but then you start near the imperial city and there's too much to do and see, and it all looks so same-y. I took a break after only maybe 2 hours because of that. I might try get into it again though, I'll try to pace myself, this obviously isn't something you can play in a few sittings and get over with. That might have been my problem. I haven't played such a huge game since I got to uni, except maybe mass effect 1 and 2.

i never played through any of oblivion's story line despite having a fairly high leveled character that was 40 hours in. so i didn't bother with skyrim.

I don't really understand your logic here...Hanky Panky wrote:i never played through any of oblivion's story line despite having a fairly high leveled character that was 40 hours in. so i didn't bother with skyrim.
Also, while I am a huge fan of both Morrowind and Skyrim I never played Oblivion and I have no interesst in changing that. Oblivion just wasn't as good...

Re: What are your favorite games
because there are TONS of things i can do in oblivion still without buying skyrim. it's the same reason i waited until 3 years after oblivion came out to get it. i was still fucking around in morrowind.
those games mess me up. i come from old school jrpgs where if you don't do the sidequest NOW, you won't ever get to do it.

it's just that i'm not going to get around to playing it even if i do buy it so what's the point of spending that $60 when i could get something i would play like pokemon y.

Re: What are your favorite games
As I said, I suppose that makes some sense. In a way, it's the same reason why I haven't buyed the expansions for Skyrim yet. There is still just so much to do in regular Skyrim...Hanky Panky wrote:it's just that i'm not going to get around to playing it even if i do buy it so what's the point of spending that $60 when i could get something i would play like pokemon y.

Re: What are your favorite games
God, Skyrim.
I think I'm addicted to mod installing. I do it more than playing with the actual game itself.
HALP.
Also, I would probably take Fallout 2, Thief 2/3, Populous 3, Skyrim, Dungeon Keeper 2 with me.
These are all games I've played more than 5 times each, and still could spend time with them.

Re: What are your favorite games
I just started playing super metroid yesterday, and I have to say it's pretty damn good. I still prefer Metroid Fusion and Metroid Zero Mission, mostly due to Super Metroid's slightly inferior animations and controls, but it's still a pretty solid game so far.
Metroid Fusion probably ranks highest in terms of the story.
