Well to answer both of those questions, just take a look at this official map Nintendo released.

1. Diving. As you can see Sootopolis is still there, looking pretty much the same, presumably keeping it's special gimmick of needing Dive to enter. But if that's not enough just check out all those darker coloured area on Route 127-128. I think Diving is 100% confirmed.
2. Contests. More subtle, but if you take a closer look at the map and compare the towns to their old version, you can see that it matches completely, and all the towns that had a Contest hall have the same salmon coloured building. Of course, that doesn't mean that contests are confirmed, only that there's gonna be a some kind of minigame, but I think Contests returning is the most reasonably answer.

Guys the map is really small Sad

Please by all means argue with me. But I'm conscious that GF have had a sped-up dev cycle and that might translate to smaller games (see: XY Post game). Hoenn is the smallest of the contemporary regions (HGSS had two, Sinnoh was huge, BW2's Unova and Kalos are decently sized too. You can SEE the scale is basically the same as it was in RSE... And I'm far too cynical to believe they'll add a new region or a bunch of islands. Something, sure, but that's a given and it won't offset Hoenn's tetchy size.

I mean you can trek across 5 cities in a matter of minutes.

I hadn't seen that map yet. And yeah, that does make the return of dive almost certain and it DOES make Contests a bit more likely, which is awesome. And while Hoenn was sort of small, it didn't seem much smaller then Kanto or Kalos to me. And the "size" of the post game doesn't depend on the size of the map. Also, while I can't judge the fourth gen, didn't only the second and fifth gen have large post games?

Sinnoh had quite decent post game with an entire island having 3 towns a mountain and a bunch of routes.  about the size of the BW1 post game.

d_what wrote:I mean you can trek across 5 cities in a matter of minutes.
You can do that in every game though?
I disagree. Statistically, Hoenn is the biggest region, as it has 16 towns (a number only Kalos and Unova can compete with) and the most amount of routes with 34.
HGSS is a bad example, because Kanto was almost completely devoid of content, but even if it wasn't you shouldn't count Kanto and Johto as one unit.
Sinnoh only feels big because it has a huge ass mountain in the middle of it and it's pretty full with stuff to do in general, but it's still physically smaller than Hoenn.
BW2 Unova is big tho.

But even if it was as small as you claim, Hoenn's real strength is still in it's diversity not it's size. It has a volcano, underwater parts, rainforest, desert, ash lands, a city INSIDE a volcano, a floating city, etc.

So apparently here's what Rustboro Gym looks like now.

I like that they're actually changing the layouts of some areas now! This gym used to be really bland, but now it's very interesting! I'm glad they don't have to rigidly stick to "exactly the same area but revamped" anymore. It kinda reminds me of what the retro tracks in Mario Kart 8 are like, and how they've actually gotten more than graphical changes for the first time.

I am pretty sure that's the same or at least a similar layout, only with some decoration and from a different angle

Well, the entryway is definitely new. It's hard to tell from this angle whether the actual maze portion is the same.

So, we've got an official US site up now. Ancient Devolution's official translation is Primal Reversion, and the site hints both that Primal Reversion is related to Mega Evolution and that Groudon and Kyogre's Abilities get powered up during the process. Primal Groudon gets a boost to Attack, and apparently a new signature move. The same goes for Primal Kyogre, but with Special Attack instead. What is probably Granite Cave now has a mural inside that Steven is studying, portraying the respective version legendary. Brendan and May's equivalent to the Mega Ring is the Mega Bracelet. For some reason, the site only refers to Brendan and May as the male/female main characters, which is odd.

Hmm, different layout but not too different in the design.

Ninja'd EDIT: Why is that odd?

Well, they've already got names, so the fact that the site's not using them is a little strange. It might be that they're getting renamed, but obviously we've got very little to go on at the moment.

Maybe it's just because most players rename their characters?

Well, but they also mention how the one you don't pick becomes an NPC, and they don't mention names then, either.

inb4 Groundon gets a self-tailored version of Water Absorb mspa

But for real, I think he gets an ability and an attack that nerfs water moves.
Maybe something called Evaporate?

He won't get Water absorb but he might get an attack that is super effective against water, like a fire version of freeze dry

Hmm, a few more thing about this trailer.
- If you pause at 0:20 you can see two berry trees on the left.
- At 1:20 you can see Groundon and Kyogre performing attacks and they don't look familiar, so I think they are the new signature moves?
Groundon -> SE against Blaziken, so presumably Ground type
Kyogre -> Neutral against Swampert, so possibly Water type
hmmmm...

We already knew about the moves for a long time but okay
I mean literally
They were on the leaked corocoro scans as screenshots AND artwork
Kyogre's is definitely Water-type, in the artwork you can see that it's attacking with water
Also I saw some theories that maybe this is the result of combining the Red/Blue Orbs with the Mega Bracelet, basically using them as Megastones, which would be interesting

Does the scan say anything about the attacks? Because pD wasn't speculating if they GET attacks but what TYPE of attacks they get.

That said, seeing as Blaziken is weak only to Water, Psychic, Flying and Ground moves, that basically HAS to mean that it's a ground move. Assuming we really do see what pD says, which I don't know since videos suck on my phone

I'd love to see Groudon get a watery absorby ability. Excepting the 4x Water weakness, Ground/Fire is a decent type and Groudon, despite being the sunshine pokemon, has always been in Kyogre's shadow (who is widely considered the best Pokemon in the game SINCE ITS RELEASE, and that's counting Arceus and Xerneas). Technical STAB/Rain/4x boosted water attacks on Groudon from Kyogre are just unfair (I assume Rain because Kyogre switching in to Groudon is far, far more likely to happen than Groudon switching in to Kyogre). Mind you, Groudon has the most benefit from Stat increases, since Attack AND Special Attack increases are both great for it. Groudon's special move pool is pretty great, it just lacks the stats to pull it off. Meanwhile, Kyogre has Earthquake. That's it really.

But they'll probably make their abilities symmetrically so that's not too likely to happen. Ground AND Fire boost maybe?

Huh, funny, Kyogre is the only Legendary I ever used on an ingame team.

That said, I still doubt the Water Absorb thing, mainly because it doesn't fit thematically to me and being immune to Kyogres main attacks would put Kyogre at too much of a disadvantage I feel. I'd totally love it if they give both of them abilities that would make the fight between them balanced though, because yes, Kyogre has a VERY unfair advantage against Groudon right now.

I actually said "self-tailored version of Water Absorb". So I didn't mean that I want him to get Water Absorb, but a new, personal variation of that.
Like, Intense Heat: "This pokemon emits heat enough to evaporate even the largest tsunamis."
Not sure what would Kyogre get though.
