Hmm. Not that I object to all my eggs (metaphorically) going into your basket, (again metaphorically) but a wider distribution of my digital spawn would be preferable. To mix metaphors, in doggy language this would be called intent to [select one]pee on all the things/do all of the bitches.[/] Swimmers gotta swim.

You didn't miss out, IT gets it if nobody else wants it. Have I given you anything before Hanky? Besides whatever it was I traded for the awesome Dragonite. That likely doesn't count.
E: actually Xaber if you're around you should probably get top priority whenever any of us have free stuff. IIRC the SS thing flopped for you? Australian-Irish timezone conversion though... Easy to math, hard to do.

You gave me a 4IV gastly that I turned into a 5iv MM being project

Re: General chat: Who needs mspaf anyway
Walking into the E4+1 right now. Let's do this.
haha whoops i accidentally wrote for like two hours
- Spoiler:
- Spoiler:
- AAAAAAAAAGGHHHHH YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME
I was writing a sort-of-liveblog-ish thing for this, but then after getting about halfway through, I went to backspace a spelling error, but I had accidentally pressed Tab during the spelling error, which made the subsequent backspace go back a page, erasing everything I wrote!!! UGHHHHH. Fine then, I guess I'll just write it all over again!
Here's the team I'm using:
- Daryan the Furfrou, level 62 w. Silk Scarf
Return/Dig/Sucker Punch/Cotton Guard
- Caledfwlch the Aegislash, level 62 w. Rocky Helmet
Shadow Claw/Iron Head/Shadow Sneak/Swords Dance
- Moe the Mr. Mime, level 62 w. Amulet Coin
Psychic/Dazzling Gleam/Calm Mind/Encore
- Milo the Clawitzer, level 62 w. Quick Claw
Water Pulse/Dark Pulse/Dragon Pulse/Aura Sphere
- Lil' K the Klefki, level 62 w. Leftovers
Dazzling Gleam/Mirror Shot/Thunder Wave/Attract
- Olya the Abomasnow, level 62 w. Nevermeltice
Blizzard/Ice Shard/Energy Ball/Earthquake
I've got 44 Moomoo Milks, 14 Lumiose Galettes, 15 Full Restores, 20 Hyper Potions, 15 Revives, 7 Max Revives, 10 of each X item, and various assorted "lesser" healing items. I think I'm prepared.
- So this is that Malva whose name I keep hearing mentioned. She looks pretty cool, although not especially fire-y.
- Heading for the Water one first, since that's the type I'm least well-equipped to deal with out of these four.
- Man, that was a cool intro. Probably ridiculously expensive and difficult to build for whoever made this place, but cool nonetheless.
- This guy also looks cool. And apparently he likes cooking?
- Wow, okay, this battle music is kind of awesome.
- I'm leading with Olya, and he leads with... Clawitzer. I'm sure it's got the same moveset as Milo, so I'd better get her out of here. Switching to Lil. K.
- Paralyzed it to start off, set up an X Sp. Att and an X Sp. Def, and 3HKOd it with Dazzling Gleam. I had to heal twice, but it went pretty well anyways.
- Gyarados? Well, great. It's got to have Earthquake on it, so it looks like setup sweeping is now out of the question. Going to Daryan. I kind of wish I had an Electric-type right now.
- Used two Cotton Guards while he used Dragon Dance and then Waterfall. Whittled it down with (intimidated, unfortunately) Return while he continued to alternate between those two moves. A critical hit would have obliterated Daryan after the first few dances, but luckily that didn't happen.
- Barbaracle! I'm debating whether to switch to Olya for a clean OHKO or stick with Daryan to get some more use out of his +6 defense for a bit, but it might outspeed Olya, so Daryan it is.
- Starting with Dig, and... Oh no, Cross Chop? I didn't know it could learn that! Great. Well, hopefully spamming Dig will make it run out of PP before it has a chance to get a critical.
- Yes, it worked. It only got to use three chops with all 5 PP. However, three Digs brought it down to Full Restore range. I'll just heal, X Attack, and do it again.
- Down it goes! Starmie's next, so the Defense won't be useful, but I'll see how Sucker Punch fares against it.
- Hahaha, you've got to be kidding me! Sucker Punch got a critical hit and OHKOd! That was kind of anticlimactic, but Siebold is done. Daryan was surprisingly awesome, considering how I was expecting Olya to be the star player here.
- A quick couple of heals later, and it's time for Malva.
- Another cool intro, although slightly less so than the last one. Hey, wait a second, we saw a clip of this intro wayyy back in the first trailer for this game! Neat.
- She's very short and to the point, I see. Fine with me.
- I've got Milo out front, and she starts with Pyroar.
- Hyper Voice does a little less than a quarter of his health, while Water Pulse OHKOs. Nice!
- Talonflame, eh? I'll stick with Milo.
- Brave Bird takes him down to low orange health, while Water Pulse OHKOs once more! Milo, you rock.
- Torkoal! This is one thing I know Milo will outspeed, so I'll leave him in unhealed and hope for another OHKO.
- It worked! I'm less surprised about this than the last two, but still very impressive. By the way, is it just me or is Torkoal's smoke ridiculously ugly and terrible in this game? You just... you just can't make a 3D model of billowing smoke and have it look good. It's one of the few models in this game I'm actually disappointed in.
- Chandelure. Hm. I know it'll outspeed Milo, and it's so incredibly powerful that I don't want to waste any time healing to let it get off extra attacks.
- Goin' to Daryan. Let's see if I can 2HKO with Sucker Punch.
- Confuse Ray? Oh come on!
- And then Daryan hits himself next turn. Darn it. Flamethrower then takes him to just under half.
- You know what, I'll sacrifice Daryan to make things easier on myself. Sucker Punch works, taking it to under half, and he goes down from a Flamethrower.
- Come on, Caledfwlch, you'd better do enough with Shadow Sneak...
- Yes! Malva has been defeated! On to the Dragon one, I guess.
- Hang on a second, I just realized that letting Daryan faint weakened his Return. Whoops. Guess I'll just have him beat up a Soothing Bag for five minutes.
- Okay, NOW onto the Dragon one.
- Ehh, that intro wasn't really as visually impressive as the last two.
- Oh, it's an old(ish) woman. I wasn't expecting that, but cool.
- You know, I bet her leading pokèmon has Earthquake and Poison Jab just to mess with all the people who put a Steel and/or Fairy-type in the front for this battle. I'll lead with Milo again.
- Wait, those big ol' spikes are earrings? How in the world do her earlobes support that weight?
- Oh, Dragalge. Huh. Well, I know it's got awesome Sp.Defense, but let's see how Dragon Pulse does.
- Quite well! Milo outspeeds and brings it down to red health with one attack, while it retaliates with Thunderbolt, taking him to low yellow.
- I know it's gonna get a Full Restore, so I'll use Dark Pulse to get it low enough for another Dragon Pulse to KO.
- Next is Altaria. Going to Olya for this.
- Its Dragon Pulse does about a fifth of Olya's health, and Blizzard OHKOs in return. Next!
- Noivern, huh? Hopefully Olya can get a Blizzard off on it...
- Flamethrower!? Oh, come on! Ughhhh. There goes my only Ice-type moves.
- Umm... how about Daryan?
- Dragon Pulse does less than half his health, while Return does over half of its health. Two turns of that and it's done.
- Okay, time for Druddigon. Maybe Lil' K? It might have Earthquake, but it's worth a shot.
- I open with Attract, which successfully stops it from attacking, followed by Thunder Wave, leaving it with only a 1 in 8 chance of getting to do anything!
- Two Dazzling Gleams later, and it's done. Drasna is defeated!
- The Steel one is last.
- Ah, an impressive intro again. But, what would happen if some curious challenger decided to lean over one of those holes and look down into it before the giant freaking sword dropped down there? You'd think the safety officials would have caught that before now.
- I'm leading with Milo... again. Hey, when I don't know what they're gonna lead with, starting with the powerhouse with great type coverage usually works out pretty well.
- Haha, this guy is so stereotypically knight-like.
- Klefki, huh? Not what I'd expect this guy to use, but that's fine.
- Dazzling Gleam does about a fifth of Milo's health, and Water Pulse does over half of Klefki's.
- It uses Spikes next turn just before fainting. That miiight cause problems later on.
- Sticking with Milo for Probopass.
- Sturdy lets it survive Aura Sphere, and the following Discharge brings Milo to mid-orange.
- The next two turns are completely identical, and consist of Full Restore ==> Aura Sphere ==> "Probopass endured the hit!"
- Finally, he gives up and lets Probopass go down. Aegislash is up next. I was expecting him to have one, but I'm not sure I'm prepared for it...
- No, wait, I've got an idea. I'd expect him to use the same strategy I use with Caledfwlch (that is, swords dance, then try to sweep with shadow sneak), so I'll try and counter it with Daryan.
- I'll have Daryan open with Cotton Guard and... huh. King's Shield. I was expecting him to use Swords Dance, but okay.
- AGH NO. I went for another Cotton Guard since I thought he'd want to use Swords Dance before starting to attack, but he did Sacred Sword! I forgot that it could learn that move, and forgot that it strikes through defense boosts! Daryan manages to survive a 90 power super-effective move from 150 base attack with low yellow health, though, which is really awesome. Man, he's even better at defense than I thought.
- Oh. I am such an idiot. I forgot that Stance Change only activates immediately before the attack, so I was expecting Sucker Punch to hit while it was super-fragile! Instead, it takes less than half health thanks to still being in its shield stance, then KOs Daryan with another Sacred Sword. Whoops >:I
- Okay, call me a jerk for this if you want to, but I'm sacrificing Moe to this thing so that I can heal Milo. Come on, he wasn't gonna be useful in this fight anyways, and I really don't have any other team members that do well against this thing.
- Now that that's done, Milo comes in and... wait, this thing uses King's Shield every other turn. I could have used that turn to heal him! Argh, that was a waste. Oh well. Milo then takes the next Shadow Claw pretty well and beats it with Dark Pulse.
- Aegislash's fainting animation is kinda funny.
- Scizor's next? Oh. Another thing that nobody other than Milo and Daryan are good against. My team is even worse at dealing with Steel-types than I thought.
- Milo stays in and I heal him to full while Scizor does X-Scissor and brings him back down to a little over half. Next turn, it does the same, bringing him to red, while he Water Pulses and does a little more than half.
- The next two turns play out the exact same way, and Scizor is defeated.
- That's that! Wikistrom, and the rest of the E4, have been beaten!
- Now through the ominous giant door to the champion... I'll be honest here, while I have unfortunately gotten spoilers on who the champion is and what her strongest pokèmon is, I know nothing about any of the rest of her team. I have no idea what type she might lead with, so I'll just put Caledfwlch up front and see how that goes. Maybe I can get a few SORDS....,,,, Dances up and pull off a sweep.
- Oh yeah, one more thing. I took the Nevermeltice from Olya and gave her the Abomasite. I'm not sure I'll actually need to use it, but I figure it's worth it to have the option there just in case.
- Into the Radiant Chamber, and up the stained-glass elevator... This is very suspenseful and climactic!
- It's Diantha! Hello there.
- You're pretty to-the-point too, aren't you? Alright, let's do this!
- Oh mannnn, this music! This music is really awesome.
- Hawlucha? I didn't know what to expect, but that still wasn't what I expected.
- Okay, so we both opened with a Swords Dance. That's a little worrying. I don't feel comfortable sweeping with only +2, but I don't want to leave a boosted Hawlucha alive for long.
- Okay, it went for quadruple resisted X-Scissor. This hopefully means that it doesn't have any better moves against Caledfwlch. Cal's at +4 now.
- Turn 3, and we both use another SD. +6 Attack! Time to start sweeping, hopefully.
- Hawlucha goes down with one Shadow Sneak.
- Goodra's next...
- ...and it takes only a single Shadow Sneak too!
- Now for Tyrantrum. I know it's got great Defense, so I dunno how well this'll go.
- Shadow Sneak takes it to critical health, but it still survives. Well, nice knowing you, Caledfwlch.
- It kills Cal with a Crunch, but wait! The Rocky Helmet I gave him takes away the last little bit of Tyrantrum's HP! I knew that thing would come in handy sometime!
- So apparently, when both pokèmon faint at the same time, you don't get to see what the foe's sending out next. I went for Moe, and it turns out Aurorus was her next 'mon. Well, it's not a bad matchup, so let's see if he can do it.
- Moe's Psychic and Aurorus' Blizzard both do a little more than a third. Since Moe's faster, he's got this, barring an unlucky critical hit.
- He uses Psychic again, and it puts up a Light Screen. Oh. This could cause some problems.
- A Full Restore? It didn't look like it was low enough for that! Ugh, maybe Moe doesn't got this.
- Oh, but wait... I can use Encore on it! I forgot about that! Yesss, maybe he does have this after all!
- While Aurorus is busy trying to repeat Light Screen over and over, I use two X Sp. Attacks on Moe. Oh, wait, I forgot he had Calm Mind. I could've used that instead! Darn.
- After that, the encore ends, conveniently at the same time Light Screen runs out. Yeah, he's got this.
- Okay, so it just went down to red. So it's getting another Full Restore. Lovely. Oh, but it reapplied Light Screen, so I can Encore it again!
- Three turns of Light Screen ==> Psychic after that, and Aurorus is done. Gourgeist next, hmm? Well, I know it's got type advantage, but I'll see if Moe can still kill it first.
- It worked! One Psychic and it faints. It looked to be Average-sized, oddly. I would've thought she'd have either the smallest or biggest.
- Anyways, it's time for her last pokèmon, Gardevoir! I'll see what Moe can do, but there's a particular strategy I wanted to use on this thing, so I'm fine if he loses.
- And then I realized that it resists both of his attacks. I pick Psychic, but that doesn't matter since, after megavolving, it KOs him instantly with Shadow Ball.
- Okay, out comes Lil' K.
- He starts with Attract, and it is immobilized by love! Next, a Thunder Wave...
- It still gets to attack, but Thunderbolt only does a third or so of Lil' K's health!
- He does Mirror Shot nest turn, which looks to also be a 3HKO, and it can't move again! This might not be the most consistently useful strategy around, but it sure is fun and satisfying.
- The next Mirror Shot brings it to Full Restore range, unforunately. I pick Thunder Wave again next turn so that it'll get re-paralyzed immediately.
- After the next Mirror Shot (which lowered accuracy too), I used an X Sp. Attack again so hopefully the next attack will kill it.
- Unfortunately, it doesn't quite work, and it barely survives. After the next Full Restore, I finally 2HKO it with more Mirror Shots.
- That's it! I finally beat this game, all these months after you guys did! Now that was a fun E4+1. And a fun game, too! I would comment on the ending, but it's really late and I have to go to bed now, so I don't have time to write any more. Anyways, thanks for reading!

I don't know why you were bothering with all these competitive strategies to take them out. Brute force works just fine. I'm pretty sure I never stocked up on healing items during the entire game and got through just fine.

Re: General chat: Who needs mspaf anyway
competitive strategies??? all i really did was go "can i kill this thing safely without being at risk of losing someone? if not, what can i do to make it easier?" and oftentimes that included things like boosting stats or using status effects
i mean i'll admit i probably overstocked on items but the thing is that i was expecting this to be more difficult than it was
when i first played black 1 i only barely scraped by the e4 thanks to being underleveled and unprepared and having an unbalanced team
so yeah i guess i overprepared a bit

Being underleveled is the last thing you need to worry about in XY. And I count boosting stats and using held items other than Mega Stones as competitive strategies in this case. Also, people use the X items?

Re: General chat: Who needs mspaf anyway
wait
you mean
not everyone gives their pokèmon items??? what?
also yes you do need to worry about being underleveled if you don't have the exp. share on
now see, that's one of the few real issues i have with x/y-- if you keep the exp. share on all game, you'll be ridiculously overleveled, but if you leave it off, you'll be really underleveled unless you level grind a lot
the only really effective solution is to have it on sometimes and off sometimes, but that's sort of annoying and i kept forgetting to switch it off/on when i started getting ahead of/behind the level curve
but luckily victory road got me up to a comfortable "two levels behind highest E4 'mon and six behind champion's highest"
i was expecting to be further behind, actually, but it worked out pretty well

I'm on Victory Road now, and after being numerous levels behind the regular trainers, I decided to switch it on again for the last stretch. If all goes well I'll be right up to par just in time for the big four.

Re: General chat: Who needs mspaf anyway
Little mac is the most fighting game type character there's ever been in this fighting game, this was needed.
Also I've been playing some of the new-ish zelda (link between worlds), and it's pretty great. If I played it all day I could probably do most of the dungeons. It's nice to play a game where gameplay outnumbers plot for a change.
I've also been playing FF7 on the psp, and unlike last few times I've actually been changing up my team now and again, keeping everyone in use instead of the same 3 characters, and using my newly gained interest in stats from pokemon to try to optimise materia equipment.

- Spoiler:
- Since I'm now actually using Aeris regularly, I'm also dreading the eventual plot death. One less decent magic user.

just to clarify the meter (which powers up in an unidentified way so far) will actually just power up his neutral special when full
as in
itll change into a flashing "K.O!!" symbol that makes the neutral special be just that
an instant k.o.

are we there yet are we there yet are we there yet??
where we=you and there=finished the game.
Anyway, unrelated: Future reference for a Tyrunt/Tyrantrum; Trismos, greek word meaning "a scream; a grinding, rasping or gnashing", from which we get the word Trismus, the official name for lockjaw. Speaking as someone with pretty bad jaw pain, I think it sounds horrible and therefore fitting. And I still hold that Samson is the best possible name for a male Mawile.
Hey guys: What were the nicknames that, in recent times, you felt most proud of/least impressed by? I nickname all of my trained Pokes on the fly, and sometimes I get good ones, other times... not so much.
Good names: Shamal, arabic word meaning northeasterly wind carrying sandstorms over the desert. Hippowdon. It even LOOKS deserty, doesn't it? Flitz, combo of "flit", what a bird does, fl-, commonly used to describe fiery things, and blitz, which IIRC is german for lightning or something? In english it's got other connotations, all of which I'm good with: Talonflame. Archimedes, guy who did the whole principle of floatation thingy - Azumarill. I always award bonus points to names whose first letter is the same as the Pokemon species.
Not so great: Lefrogue. I was desperate. It's a thing with me that new pokemon have to be christened IMMEDIATELY and I had nothing.
weird ones that I'm not sure how I feel about:
Incitatus, derivation of the horse Caligula rode on, for Scolipede. Scolipede will always, always been a steed to me so I wanted a horsey name, and Caligula has some fearsome associations, plus the root of the name means swift or full speed, which works. I just don't feel comfortable with it though.

Edit: meh all my nicknames are pretty weird. They usually seem funny at the time???

Nickname of infamy: Clarence the Panpour. I was so confident I'd remember what it meant instantly, but after a week I had to ask my friend if he had any clue. I'll put it under a spoiler in case y'all want to try guessing before finding out.
- Spoiler:
- It's Clarence Darrow.

Well of course it feels weird given that you're sitting on a CONSUL.
Show some respect.

Actually, that's probably it. But the stupid Pokemon League(r) won't let me ride my Pokemon into battle anyway so it's a moot point.
