Let Us Nuzlocke Pokemon Snakewood (BACK FROM THE DEAD)
Since my last run resulted in me hiatusing for almost a month, then losing the save, it seems like a good idea to do it again.
So, let's play Snakewood. It's Pokemon, but with zombies. (along with other things)
So, let's play Snakewood. It's Pokemon, but with zombies. (along with other things)
- Operation Y:
We begin with first-person narration, and an image of Birch.
Meet zombiemons! Just like normal Pokemon, just with new colours. Bulbasaur is about par for the course for the sprites.
Protagonist choices. I have no idea how a ten(?)-year-old has white hair, or how anybody has blue hair for that matter. Whatever. Let's just pick a preset name, and...
uh
okay then
The first three are fairly obvious. Searching LOBA gave me this:
http://www.loba.de/us/home-us.html
It appears the zombies have infiltrated German hardwood floors.
Get out before it's too late, OJ
I'm going with a more sensible name. Not sure what happened to Raisin here. Graphics glitch, I guess?
The million dollar question.
...
Here we are in Littleroot Town.
Littleroot Town is a popular tourist destination. Many come here to marvel at the strange Rock Formations Where Houses Once Stood.
Also well-known is the House of Raisin. 'Twas lost in the great Fruit Apocalypse of 1533.
Littleroot Town's motto is a message of hope and inspiration.
Especially when written upon with blood.
Moving on, we have this.
What is it? How does it work? Nobody knows.
Littleroot Town is full of interesting merchandise at record-low prices. Why, sometimes you don't even have to pay!
You can meet wondrous new friends in Littleroot Town!
Littleroot Town also features a wealth of community spirit. Why, some people wouldn't take things, even when everybody else is dead and they're basically abandoning the things they leave behind to becoming mindless flesh-eaters during a zombie apocalypse! Can you feel the community spirit of this place?
Here are pictures of a Paras to distract you while I think about what I just said.
Hmmmm... there was something important. What was it?
Now what could it be?
Something about zombies, I think. Now, what's Raisin do-AAAAAAAAAH ZOMBIES
JOEY WHAT DID THEY DO TO YOU
AND RAISIN'S BACKSPRITE
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
YOU CAN HAVE RAISIN JUST NOT ME
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
AAAAAAAAAAAAA-wait I'm a narrator I'm inanimate. Oh well.
Prof. Birch is safe now, hooray!- but then plot dump:
Birch fills Raisin in on the zombie apocalypse. He also tells us that Raisin's brother Landon and his daughter May went to try and stop it. Also Raisin tells him she's lost her memory. Birch then whisks himself and Raisin to safety in Oldale Town.
I'll be spoilering plot because there's quite a lot of it.
Oldale Town is also a cool place to visit.
It has guards. Guards are cool, right? Yeah, guards are the bee's knees. I mean kneez. They deserve the z for being so cool.
I mean, look at this guard. He's just standing there, being a cold-blooded murderer with those wicked shades. He's railroadin' Raisin straight towards the plot, and there's nothin' she can do about it. He is driving the plotmobile locomotive train, and from a pillar of smoke his righteous voice can be hear shouting, "you are going to talk to Birch and you are going to like it!"
Order. Stability. Truth. Justice. Plot.
GUARDS.
This is just a barrier. It has no guards. QED, it is not cool. This is the worst railroading device. This thing is worse than that douche on Route 3 in FireRed who liked taking ten minutes to walk to Pewter Gym.
-10/10 worst barrier
Also, items have been renamed. Raisin can now heal Gumdrop with the powers of LIGHT.
Can your protagonist use bottled light to heal their allies? I didn't think so.
O_O Your suspicion is now confirmed. You're welcome!
And then Raisin grinded (kinda). And then Gumdrop got better (kinda).
Birch is up the top of Route 103.- and then there was plot:
Birch wants us to go find May and Landon because they might be able to do something but they disappeared a while ago. He's going to try and reconnect the PCs. This was buried in about thirty boxes of "snappy" dialogue.
Eggs are received.
Also phones. This marketing deal is possibly the most revolutionary in the history of advertising. Act now, and get your very own PokePhone and an egg. Call 1800 EGG PHONE and receive it today.
Not just any egg, either. A disease-type egg.
Also the store has these now.
Encounter for Route 102. Wingull is pretty cool.
Meet Salad. He's a cool dude who don't take attitude from nobody.
Actually... let's see.
If we let g=gansterness factor, and n=negatives, and w=words, then
g=n divided by w.
So, taking the syntactical necessities of sentence construction, and the limit of negatives before the Gangster equation reaches its limit, the best possible interpretation of that sentence would be...
Ain't not him who ain't not a cool dude who don't not take no attitude from none of you nobodies.
This is a good equation.
Ain't not Salad not grinding not against nobody not here.
Ain't not a not fully not grinded not team not that not we not be not seeing not here.
Not not ain't not never a not nasty not nobody's not comment nobody not be not saying not here.
help
the nots have taken over
the haves and have-nots have been overwhelmed by the nots
there are no haves now
only nots
and they're coming for the rest of us
raisin save yourself
i'll hold them off for you
you're too young to die

Re: Let Us Nuzlocke Pokemon Snakewood (BACK FROM THE DEAD)
@tinning3: The yos are our only hope against the nots. Praise be to the yos.
@wps: I've seen LP's of Snakewood as well. You seem to misunderstand the appeal of Snakewood; I'm playing it because it is awful and it's fun to laugh at it.
@OJ: Other starters were Koffing and Beldum. Most of the zombiemons seem to just be simple recolours of the sprites; zombie!murkrow is the only one I'm not sure of (because it is ridiculously op). According to the hacker, it's possible to catch two of the zombiemons.
I should update tomorrow sometime hopefully maybe.

- screenshot folders are dumb:
So, my records for a decent chunk of Raisin's journey were lost. After her thrilling confrontation with the nots last time we saw her, things have changed. Raisin is now a successful businesswoman; she's married, and has a house and three lovely children.
Okay, she's actually just a trainer in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. But since some things aren't known about what happened to her, she has generously leant her time to us to describe what happened after the attack of the nots:
Here, Raisin tells us of her thrilling confrontation with Deathcaller Alicia. Alicia had a level 5 Sneasel. Raisin was only able to overcome this terrible beast throughspamming water gunthe most cunning strategy.
Here Raisin caught a Zigzagoon. She was excited about this until she realised that it did not, in fact, have Pickup.
Here, Raisin rescued a boy from a zombie, and so received his Running Shoes as a gift.
We find a zombie while searching for a place to have a coffee. Raisin offers to show us a trick.
She fused herself with the zombie. Frankly, I'd prefer not to see the trick again.
On the way to Petalburg City, Raisin found a Broken Heart. She doesn't know what it's supposed to do.
This can heal her Pokemon cheaply and freely. Raisin, having recently been taken on as a brand ambassador by Medkits United, speaks eloquently of the benefits of Medkits as opposed to traditional healing methods such as Pokemon Centres.
Petalburg Gym was closed off.
Meanwhile, Raisin discovered that Paras mushrooms make you see really crazy stuff. SHe says she's sworn off the things since she saw herself like this.
Raisin also looted this body to get Leftovers. Win-win.
Here, somebody she barely knew sacrificed himself to protect Raisin from the zombies. When she came back, there were no more zombies. Why? She doesn't know.
However, that left her free to cosplay as Grimdark Rose.
She also found this. This crate gives you a Light Potion every time you check it. Yes, it is repeatable.
what is game balance
Here, Raisin caught a Taillow.
Problems brewing in the Sailors Guild. Raisin hadn't realised that the disputes over wages were this bad until now. This Mr. Briney sounded like a strong defender of the common man's rights.
This guy tried to kill Raisin's pokemon to "protect" her.
Here, Raisin fought a legless corpse that was demon-possessed. It had a Houndsour (this) and a Dirtkrow (this).
Actually, I haven't shown you any of the Zombiemons, have I?
We have Rotmander, Graveill, Oozle, and Polihag. What fun!
Anyway, the demon dropped a Stone Badge.
Outside, we found this. There's little you can really say about this.
Raisin and this fisherman had an intense stareoff. It was good because she didn't see herself in the water that way.
Also apparently zombies can't cross running water. Good to know.
This thing is a trainer with an Eye-Eye (zombie Jynx). Level 14 Jynx after first gym? Yep.
(Also I have a screenshot of this somewhere. It looks better than most of the zombies, which still isn't saying much. I'll post it later.)
And finally, Raisin shows us the magical happy place for children. Nothing can get in. They will be forever safe.
Also, Raisin goes grimdark again. Let's leave her to the broodfester tongues for now. We can wait for her to get over it.
I should update tomorrow sometime hopefully maybe.

I can understand how the reflection went, they may not have handled the water reflection sprites very well or at all, but I have no idea how grimdark happened.

Re: Let Us Nuzlocke Pokemon Snakewood (BACK FROM THE DEAD)
@OJ: I'm fairly sure that Grimdark mode is a glitch, since I don't think anything similar happens to the male protagonist.
@tinning3: I have no idea either, tbh. It just appears at random points.
@drega: It gets worse, unfortunately.
@tinning3: I have no idea either, tbh. It just appears at random points.
@drega: It gets worse, unfortunately.
- in which i stuff up pretty badly:
One other thing I forgot to mention was that the egg hatched into this. Yeeeeeeeeeep.
Then it died. I didn't really care at all.
Grimdark mode and infinite potions still both exist, sadly.
Normally you can rely on colour scheme to tell you which side is bad
but I can't tell here
which one of these is the bad one?
I guess the one working for LORD GRAVETRIC is worse? ALLCAPS are clearly the mark of evil here.
Colour scheme changed. Morality crisis averted.
There was a Sableye and this. Nothing too challenging.
Sneasel was a bit nastier...
...but infinite potions.
Also this happened.
Raisin found a Quick Claw here.
Also, much of the dialogue is becoming macabre in a ridiculously overdone fashion.
Raisin finds several demons throughout the town.
Also Raisin finds this guy.- plot:
- Apparently the demons are being summoned from some kind of portal to the north of the city. This guy is going to stop it, along with his servant Dantalion (who seems to be a demon). He's also using invisibility and only Raisin can see him. Also, Raisin thinks that she knew that guy from somewhere.
IT'S NOT LIKE THERE'S A ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE GOING ON OR ANYTHING.
Rock Tomb TM in the gym. Nothing else.
[URL=https://imgur.com/JJPNi8U]
Raisin looted this guy's body.
Found another demon in the condominiums.
This thing was a pain to beat. At the start of the battle, the demon used an X Attack (or Attack Plus, as it's called).
This meant its attacks were doing a ton of damage. Over half the HP of anything I had, actually. This meant I couldn't stall with Potions because it could get a crit.
I need a sacrifice to get Salad in safely.
Cinnamon was a Wurmple I caught in Petalburg Woods, evolved, then left it to rot. Also, you see how I made that switch? Something I hadn't realised then. This Dirtkrow is packing Pursuit. My switches were not safe.
It proved to be a terrible blow when I discovered it. However, even after that I still had to sacrifice my Zigzagoon to safely switch in Tangelo for a Quick Attack KO.
Like so.
Cinnamon, you barely did anything, but your fodder abilities will be missed.
Salad, you were coolm and you were a water type. RIP.
Why couldn't you have had Pickup, DEATH?
That sucked. For both Raisin and I. So then she grinded her remaining two Pokemon.
There are two important things in this screenshot. The first is that a Peck from a Level 4 Taillow did 14 damage. The second is that that Taillow outsped Gumdrop.
Paras kinda sucks, actually :/
Having made good use of attacking PP, Raisin and her two allies set out.
Apparently, Raisin as a Presence. I do hope it doesn't smell too bad.
ALLCAPS! This man is clearly a villain!
I DON'T KNOW!- Plot:
- This guy is called Gleis. He seems to recognise Raisin, but says that he thought she was somebody else. He also agrees to let her help him as long as she defeats him in a battle first.
FIGHT TIME!!!!
So, when you first played Ruby/Sapphire, remember when you beat the first gym?
Remember when a trainer came up to fight you?
Remember when he had a Deoxys-A?
Faceleech's stats: 1/175/1/1/1/255
So yeah, base 175 attack, base 255 speed. This thing can probably destroy Raisin's team if she gives it a chance. It's going to be a challenging fight, but if she can just-
Oh, right. Quick Attack.
Encounter for the next route.
Meet Coleslaw the Whismur.
...All I can think of right now is somebody pulling out their pelvis through their nose.
How would that even work?
This image meant I missed Coleslaw getting KO'd by a critical pound. Oh well.
On the way pack, this happened. Critical peck, although I'm not sure why Gumdrop was out in the first place.
Coleslaw, you were new and did very little. Gumdrop, basically everything hit you supereffectively and you had no moveset whatsoever.
RIP, guys/gals.
Since I only had one mon left, I overgrinded.
This is Dantalion, Gleis' servant. Fairly sure he's a demon.
Then I remembered you could find interesting things like Whismur or Whismur or maybe Whismur in Rusturf Tunnel.
This is Sauerkraut, the avenger of Coleslaw.
Then I realised that Raisin only had 150 Light Potions. THIS WAS CLEARLY NOT ENOUGH LIGHT.
Today on 7.30, Kerry O'Brien interviews Severed Head Kent.
Kerry: So, Kent, it says here you're a severed head.
Kent:
Kerry: I hadn't thought about it that way, to be honest.
Kent:
Kerry: That's incredibly interesting, Kent. Thanks for your time.
Kent:
Apparently I don't have a picture of Zombie Jynx. Hmmm.
Also, this happened.
There's no grinding like overgrinding.
'Bout time Raisin went and talked to Gleis.- plot:
- The girl is the Cut Man's daughter. She's the vessel for the demons. Gleis is going to close the portal, and he wants Raisin to hold back the demons for him.
why is the demon wearing pants
is this a demon from the famed 15th circle of pants-hell
do all demons wear pants or is it just this one
He only has two Anorith. Not very challenging.
HADEAN insults, according to Gleis. You can tell that HADEAN is an evil language because HADEAN is written with ALLCAPS. Those evil, evil ALLCAPS.
Closing the portal kills the girl.
Bad stuff happened in Vedanturf.
Raisin collapses and falls down the cliffs. Luckily, the two people there don't notice her until she wakes up. It's not like falling down a cliff would injure you particularly much, is it?
Anyway, ALICIA is here.- mashed plotatoes:
- ALICIA is working with PESTILENCE, one of THE FOUR HORSEMEN OF THE APOCALYPSE. Raisin remembers PESTILENCE from somewhere, and apparently PESTILENCE knows things about Raisin's past.
PESTILENCE is also evil, so she tries to kill us.
She has two of these...
And a Qwilfish. Not a problem for Raisin's overleveled team.
Also ALIcia also knows Raisin from somewhere. (The SOMEcaps are used because this makes it seem like she might not be evil).
Honestly, right now I'm fairly sure that Raisin is the only person in this game who doesn't remember her past.
Also, Raisin found this.
There are arrows everywhere in here. No idea why.
It's also nice to see different habitats functioning well near each other.
There's a Charizard here for no apparent reason.
Through this door we find...
The Endless Plains!
There's a Cut HM here and not much else.
Back in Rustboro, this guy had an Amulet Coin on him.
Then Prof. Birch calls us and tells us to go to Dewford. He also says that there should be a Surf HM and Balance Badge somewhere nearby. Apparently, there are no zombies on Dewford because they can't cross running water.
Y'know, thinking about that, I wonder why the hell the zombies attacked Hoenn.

The question isn't why the zombies attacked Hoenn, it could simply be where it started. The more interessting question is, why haven't they all evacuated Hoenn yet?

Re: Let Us Nuzlocke Pokemon Snakewood (BACK FROM THE DEAD)
@OJ: There doesn't seem to be very much communication between regions that aren't Johto and Kanto. Perhaps that could be why?
- On the Uses of Dead Zigzagoons as Axes:
Nothing on Raisin's team can learn Cut.
With the addition of a Dead Zigzagoon™, she was able to cut down trees with ease.
Dead Zigzagoons™ are incredibly useful for almost any physical work!
Dead Zigzagoons™ are also exceedingly useful in artistic endeavours! Just look at this wonderful work!
Dead Zigzagoons™ can reveal new things, such as the zombie form of Ivysaur!
Or Charmeleon!
Dead Zigzagoons™ are also very helpful for looting bodies!
And looting the loot from dead bodies!
This trainer is too unhappy. She needs a Dead Zigzagoon™ to cheer her up!
Her first Pokemon was this. Threatening, but not as much as a Dead Zigzagoon™!
She also had this! Not nearly as good as a Dead Zigzag-
okay I can't take it anymore
my mouth is hurting too much from fake smiling
Laura gave Raisin the BALANCEBADGE.
(i think its evil)
Dead Zigzagoons™ are also useful as impromptu surfboar-
no go away inner salesman
thou art not welcome here
you've sapped all the optimism from me, so i can only be cynical from now on
it would be nice if the rock smash barrier was actually shown here
oh well
also I got Raisin's alternate ego to face off with her other alternate ego
I just watched for a while
nothing happened
further usage of dead zigzagoons™
also these are in petalburg woods
only just realised
i love how all the items are renamed and i don't know what anything is
and i don't think magpie is spelt like that
also, stocking up here
the surfing prompt is encouraging
can't wait to see wait other liquids we ride upon
found this
critical ko
no more magikarp for me
anyway, time to go to dewford
this is too optimistic for me
cynicism: out
Woah this thing is kinda nasty
except not really
Also encounter for Route God-knows-what: Qwilfish!
Meet Brownie. She's pretty cool.
Also this.
And so Raisin set out 'pon the roiling seas.
She met a pirate!
He had cats!
Yarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr right.
And then we met a trainer with two level 24 Qwilfish. At this level, Qwilfish knows Water Gun, Headbutt, Harden and Minimize. The only special attack I had was Brownie's Surf. They got a few Hardens and Minimizes up, and were basically impossible to kill.
Then one of them got a critical Water Gun on Tangelo.
Sauerkraut was only just able to take them out.
Tangelo, you were cool, and you killed basically everything. See you around.
We also met a Black Belt with an interesting name, and this thing.
Hitmontop is pretty good at this point, especially if you don't have a fighting resist.
Which Raisin did.

I know how the reflection glitch works. When you change the over world sprite you change its pallet, but the reflection has a pallet of its own that needs editing manually.
The female OW clearly just still has may's reflection pallet.
Except she doesn't. They've edited the reflection pallet into something different but still wrong. why

@tinning3: It hasn't affected it too much. I like to think I burnt all of my dead Pokemon to prevent them from rising again.
Well, all of them except my ever-useful Dead Zigzagoon™.
@OverlordJ: Combination of a bit of bad luck and me not grinding enough for this game's level curve.
@Dregadude: The dead pile is becoming exceedingly large. In fact, you could say it's...

update speed will probably slow down for this week, but from then on I'm on holidays.

- and suddenly dragons:
Dewford encounter.
Whoops.
Route 108 (i think?)
Meet Dressing. His legend and words shall lightly season the deeds of Salad, and take some of the bitterness away from Salad's untimely end.
Silk Scarf obtained.
Apparently the TV station is no longer broadcasting. This kid is remarkably sanguine about it.
Of course, the kid could just be blind.how does raisin know what her mother would like
she has amnesia
isn't her mother dead anyway
This is the description for Haruko, the Gym Leader here. She uses Dark types.
The gym just happens to be full of Shinx because their evolutions are Dark-type now.
There are also film students here. I should note that overall, Snakewood's spriting has been pretty good so far, especially compared to other notable PC hacks.
Also beating the gym trainers doesn't change the lighting. Why would anybody think that would happen?
Really, though, the only notable thing about these gym trainers are their names. They're not threatening at all when you've got Surf and stuff.
And here's Haruko herself!
BOSS FIGHT!
Oh. Haruko wants us to investigateGranite CaveSolar Caverns. Something's apparently in there.
Here we are.
Obligatory "scary" "threatening" message.
Throughout the cave, Raisin constantly stops because there's some sort of roaring.
Encounter! Makuhita is pretty cool.
This is Vanilla. Vanilla longs for evolution, which will allow her to open her eyes.
THese are in the cave. They're basically Geodude with claw moves and similar stats. They're also not that bad as Fakemon sprites go.
Quick summary of the rest of the cave. Notably, you no longer need Flash, which is nice, although it has a rather dodgy explanation (something to do with Groudon's sunlight getting stuck in the cave or something). I trained the whole team up a bit, especially Vanilla. Dressing evolved and learnt Protect.
At the bottom, we find a complete lack of plot. This is almost disappointing. I expect better of Snakewood.
and suddenly, dragons
Much better.
AAAH MY EYES
MAKE IT STOP
...
Meet Meteor, the Dragon King.
He is yet another NPC who knows Raisin. I am seriously getting tired of the fact that every single person in this world seems to know the PC. Whatever happened to that good old silent everyman Red?
Also, why the hell are there DRAGONS in a Pokemon game? What the hell, game?
*sigh*Shiny CharizardMETEOR, KING OF ALL DRAGONS would like to battle!!!!
!!!!
!!!
!
Just... why. WHY.
Except these.
"Dragon": 108/95/75/112/75/76
Dragon type (who would have guessed)
Moveset: "Fire Pump"(basically Flamethrower)/Fly/Dig/???
Luckily, that set is awful against Protect Pelipper. Also, I'm way overleveled.
Still, the more time it spends using Fly and Dig, the less we have to look at it or think about it.
And done.
Right now I'm guessing that Grimdark mode is Raisin's power.
Also, Meteor is EVILLL!!!!!!1!!1! and wants to destroy Dewford.
Honestly, I wouldn't care if Meteor destroyed this particular part of Dewford.
The battle was a cakewalk with overleveling and this.
Like so.
Well, everything except this was a cakewalk.
Meet Kingmadio. It has Wonder Guard. I'll let you guess the type.
(spoiler: it's Dark/Ghost)
Luckily, this one only knows Night Shade. It's very easy to beat.
Like so.
And that's that!i hate everything
update speed will probably slow down for this week, but from then on I'm on holidays.

Re: Let Us Nuzlocke Pokemon Snakewood (BACK FROM THE DEAD)
@Drega: Sure thing.
@kotakun: you forgot the demons and the four horsemen of the apocalypse and the dragons and there's more
Honestly, I'd prefer it if Snakewood was just a silly clichéd zombie game. THe plot is this awful convoluted... thing and it doesn't make any sense.
@Hanky: Yes. Yes it is.
@iT: Sent you a PM.
Plot summary (not really)
I'll summarise the actual plot when I next update.

IIRC from other lps I've seen, deadly seven and blah should be switched. You fight them every other minute in the second half.Xaber wrote:@Drega: Sure thing.
