Super Training is actually not a great way to EV Train. Its much more efficient to use Hordes and Power Items.

and pokerus.

ST is nice for keeping your pokemon at low levels. i don't usually EV with hordes if my pokemon is over lvl 20.

True, it's faster to use sweet scent and just use the right hordes in combination with Pokérus and training items, and I did find it took longer than it was taking in b/W, but... I dunno, maybe I'll eventually change my mind, but I like how consistent ST is. No running from battles with mons you don't want to fight. It does get a bit tedious, but it does allow a fully EV trained team early game.

Yeah, I fully EV trained all my party Pokemon and I don't even have my second badge yet.

Sweet Jesus, I'm taking my sweet time with this game. I checked with my roommate, who beat the game five days after release, and he took three hours less to beat the Elite Four than I currently have. I think there may be something wrong with me.

It took me 105 hours. Where are you at the moment?

Just left Glittering Cave. Gleaming Cave? Idk. I don't think it'll take me 105 hours, but it'll take me probably three or four times the length of rl days that it took you.

Relating: Glittering Cave is awesome, that's the place where I've discovered the passive battle prizes thingie. Hint hint: use Rock Slide there.

i'm gonna try masuda method with a gourgeist

my only concern is that i got a japanese pumpkaboo from the gts and it evolved into a gourgeist, but it lost its japanese name when it evolved.  the "jpn" symbol still appears on its status screen.  i assume it will still work for masuda method?

edit: also what the fuck, i specifically chose a female on gts but this is a male

The name doesn't matter at all. The only thing that matters is the language of the game it came from. As long as you don't pair the Gourgeist with another Pokémon from a Japanese game, the Masuda method will work. Now you just have to trust in the RNG. I suggest that once you have your shiny, send out the extras on Wonder Trade and release all the vendor trash you get, so you can clear some space in your boxes while doing your part to purge lousy Pokémon from Wonder Trade.

but they're just pumpkaboos

anybody can get pumpkaboos, they're basically just "vendor trash" like anything else

But the point is, you won't have them anymore. Unless you want an army of Pumpkaboos.

But if you Wonder Trade, there's a good chance you'll get something nice in return for at least one of them. Just some food for thought.

Okay, now that the secret santa partners have been announced and I've finished at least one of the dexes, I'm putting that on the back seat while I start IV breeding. I've watched a tutorial, I've chosen my test mon, it's go time.

Good idea.

In other news, getting a Smeargle to learn Whirlwind is a bit of a bother in XY. (Egg moves for Hippowdon. I think Shamal would be an appropriate name for a Hippowdon. And I'd call a Mamoswine Otzi if any of those tutor moves were available... But alas, it was not meant to be :/)

Isn't getting Smeargle to learn Whirlwind generally a bit of a bother? How is it harder in this gen then it was before?

No low level double guys to battle Sad no rematch trainers or doubles grass. Institute and Chateau don't work since Sketch will reset afterwards... There's the restaraunts but they're big commitments and aren't low enough to be useful.

I did it anyway though. Took a bit of experimenting and some luck... I could have just levelled up the Smeargle but that's a lot of wasted effort.

That reminds me... in Gen V, when you're fighting a wild double battle, what happens if you use Whirlwind on your other Pokemon?

It switches with something from the party. Unless you don't have a party, in which case the move fails. It also fails if the normal failing conditions happen. I don't know what happens if you target a wild pokemon in a double battle, since it only targets one.

Also weird that Hippowdon gets Whirlwind as opposed to Roar. Hmm.

*checks*
Oh wow. I didn't realise they were so low and so few. I'd still have to level Smeargle somewhat though, but it's negligible. In any case I worked around it and you only ever have to do it once.

Huh. And that's a TM. Hmm. Well that was a lot of wasted effort, too. Although Whirlwind is marginally better I guess since it's not blocked by Soundproof. I'm sure it'll come in very handy when I'm fighting a...

Nope. There is nothing worth using that uses Soundproof.

Goddamn.
