Hanky's Record Shop Empty Hanky's Record Shop

Post by Hanky Panky Mon Aug 05, 2013 12:42 am

As a direct result of suggesting lots of Led Zeppelin songs to Jello, I've decided to open up shop in the general discussion subforum. Basically here I'd like for you all to come looking for new music and/or a suggestion for a specific genre, and I'll try to suggest something that I personally like that I hope you will also like. To start you off, I'll go ahead and post 5 of my favorite bands, in no specific order.

Gorillaz
Radiohead
Arcade Fire
Brand New
The Eagles

Now, I want this place to be full of friendly, open-minded music discussion. Keep in mind that not everyone likes the same kind of music. Taste in art is almost entirely subjective. Now there are objectively bad music artists, but we're not here to shit on each other's favorite bands. Feel free to make suggestions for me as well as for others, especially when I don't have any idea what to suggest!

my favorite homestuck album would be volume 9 because it was absolutely beautiful. But currently my favorite song would have to be either

Or

Also I have moonsetter set as my morning alarm and its waking up to something so light and airy. Keeps me from starting my day all grumpy.

omg that's such a good idea

Too bad I can't use an alarm in the morning.  If i could, I'd probably make it something relaxing, like the sound stone melody from Earthbound.

edit: No, wait, much better idea: I'd make it the morning music from Legend of Zelda. Like this.

I just wanted to post this awesome song here, it's one of my favourite. I don't know what's with all the Supernatural fans in the comments but it's not like that's changing the fact that this is a great song

I'm feeling kind of pensive today. A little moody. Here's what I listen to when I feel like a brooding artist.

I approve of Gurren Lagann theme tune. Always cheers me up. On that subject, I once found an 8 bit remix of sorario days on the youtubes, which was alright but not as great. Then I found a fusion of that remix and the orginal song, and Holy Jegus, it's amazing. Here's a link to a youtube teaser, not the full song because of copyright reasons, but it's worth downloading via the link on that page.

Here's the youtube link.

Actually theophany just kind of did his (or her, not really sure on gender. but that's not relevant anyway.) own thing and it's not specifically associated with OCR.

When I remembered that Under Pressure existed, I listened to it on repeat for like a week. It's two of the best things ever (queen and bowie) coming together and making something indescribably beautiful

Setzer's theme and this one are so nice to listen to. Also, I've downloaded a whole bunch of OCRemix albums since listening to the FF6 one. Most have been pretty great so far.

8-bit/Midi remixes of pop songs are really nice. Especially ones of my favourite songs. So here you go. My favourite songs in 8-bit form.

Spoiler:

Oh, and btw, Starships happens to be my favourite song ever. No matter what my mood is, I feel better after listening to it.
